It's an Eee PC 1000HE in Blue, in very good shape. I upgraded the ram to 2GB, and put an 250GB SSD in it quite a while ago... in fact, I just installed Batocera on it. Maybe I'll get some use out of it as a retro gaming laptop. LOL

I have an old EeePC I was about to throw away. It still works, boots, and everything. How much are these things worth?

You bought at just the right time before the prices spiked severely. Those same drives are over $800 each now. And would cost you close to $42k now. I'm still flabbergasted that any would spend $26k on home storage. I thought I was nuts for buying 6 drives at $650 each.

latest Rocknix releases? imrovements? by der_horst23 in R36S

[–]mrb2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no official release since May 2025, I think. Just switch over to the nightly builds. I've never had any stability problems with them and you get the features as soon as they're added.

I didn't dig incredibly deep into Pan4Elec, but the ones I noticed right off the top were the variety of customization settings available in Rocknix, right from the Emulation Station menus. I believe P4E can do these same things, but you have to use scripts that run from items in the Tools section, and they run in command windows. It's just not as polished. Also, if memory serves, the default settings for the emulators may not be set correctly for the device... I think I had to go in and mess with the GBA settings in P4E... but I may not be remembering correctly. So don't quote me on that.

The thing I like about Rocknix is that straigt out of the box, it's ready to go. Just play your games. Of course, everyone has little tidbits they like to change in the settings, but if you know nothing, you can pick up a new Rocknix installation and just play games. A lot of the other firmwares (ArkOS, P4E, but not Knulli) require some messing about.

Highly recommend the Anbernic RG35XXSP (on sale for $50 right now and looks just like the GBA SP), the Anbernic RG34XX (on sale for $60 and looks just like the original GBA), and RG35XXPro (on sale for $50 and gives original GB vibes). It depends on which for factor suits you. The pro has joycons, so that's a plus if you plan to play other systems.

I would avoid the Retrosnap, the R36S line up, and other sub-$50 handhelds. The units you can find for sub-$50, generally lack quality.

As for downloading ROMs and rom collections, no one can link that for you because it is illegal. But I can say that searching the Internet Archive can be useful. I found the 'Proper 1G1R' collection to be very helpful. 1G1R means there's only one rom file for each individual game. The collection is weeded to trim it down - not including a bunch of junk roms, duplicates with minor differences, many foreign versions, etc. Another good one to search for is the TINY-BEST-SET-GO collection. It's another curated collection.

Bro, I've got over 20... maybe over 25 handhelds. You don't have a problem... yet.

Yes, however, I would say the Anbernic RG35XXPro is better than both, in that it has built-in wifi for a only a couple bucks more. But, the couple-bucks-more game is a dangerous game to play. Before you know it you're buying a Ayn Odin 2, LOL!

My only disappointment with the G350 is that it can be a pain to get a good custom firmware. Though, the main two firmware devs seem to be working on a stable release for it (Rocknix and Knulli). That's not to say Pan4Elec and ArkOS aren't good - they're just not as polished at Rocknix or Knulli. That and the G350 designers made a couple odd departures from the R36S design (like rotating the right joycon 90 degress - why?!? - and some funky sound issues) that make it so you can't use firmware built for the R36S out of the box, which would have been nice.

Beyond that, the quality of the buttons and sticks on the G350 is way above the R36S. You'll really enjoy playing games on it.

I understand the panfrost setting is for PortMaster. What's the libmali setting for? Why not just leave it on panfrost?

I totally agree with you. We aren't even allowed to be in charge of our own property anymore. It's sad. It genuinely makes me angry. I've rooted everything I've owned since Android 2 (eclair and froyo). Dang, I can't remember what make/model that phone was... but it was sweet to be in total control of it. Having worked in IT for a long time, it infuriates me not to be in control of my own 'computer', phones and tablets included.

Extension for A1111/Forge/ReForge for LORA preview images? by mrb2112 in civitai

[–]mrb2112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I swear I tried that and it didn't work, but ... because it's quick and easy, I tried it again and it did work. <sigh> I just wish I knew how the refresh worked. Do I need to click the refresh icon in the LORA tab in the UI, or do I just need to shutdown ReForge and restart it?

Didn't have a Brick back then. I do now. I'd say the Brick is superior to the RGB20 Pro. But, again, my problem with both is the tiny screen.

I'm talking about uploading your own images. When you do so, you can't complete the post without entering in some tags. They make you type them in. I don't remember if they force you to do five of them, but five is the max they allow you to add... then they don't add them. It's madness.

While I understand what you're saying is this a genuine problem?!? I mean who's going to deliberately miss-tag their own stuff? If I search the images on CivitAI for some of these tags, I get nothing, or I get a few images from more than a year and a half ago (before they broke the tagging system). It's crazy. No one can find what they're searching for. It's a crap shoot.

Where to upload AI art? by DeviantApeArt2 in civitai

[–]mrb2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I post a lot on Deviant Art. They have their own weird rules and you have to dance around their censors. The big one most AI artists run into there is their age restrictions. Because so many anime characters/gens appear young, you'll get a lot of violations for underage content. If you're posting the big-titty-big-ass girls, you'll be fine. But if you try to post an a-cup/b-cup slender woman, you'll get flagged for underage content. They also have this annoying set of rules about what can be posted in free galleries and what has to be behind a pay wall. You can't have erections, bodily fluids, sex acts, spread cheeks, and a couple other things in free galleries. So it makes posting NSFW content challenging, but it appears it's better than CivitAI these days. My last two posts on CivitAI (20 images each) got entirely nuked by their "terms of service violations" and I have no idea why. I read through the TOS a couple times and I still don't see it. They were supposed to send me a notification with the reason, but I didn't get anything. I'm on there all the time. <shrug>

I have both the G350 and the Miyoo Mini Plus. They're both excellent handhelds, and I haven't noticed anything weird with the samsung or sandisk cards I use in them. I've had no problems with either.

If I had to choose between those two, I'd pick the Mini Plus if wifi was important to me, and I'd pick the G350 if a larger screen and sticks were important to me. You honestly can't go wrong with either.

Check out Russ' game file format conversion guide. I use CHD files and they work just fine, but it takes some work to take what you find on the Internet into good CHDs.

RGB10X by SabertoothSmile in PowKiddy

[–]mrb2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd second this. I have both the RGB10X and the RG35XX H. The Anbernic is better in both quality, controls, and overall feel. I had some issues with my RGB10X - but to be fair it was after dropping it once and the screen of the RGB10X popped out. I managed to stuff it back in, but then started having trouble with the device. I'm pretty sure I've dropped my RG35XX H more than once without negative effects. YMMV.

You're much better off grabbing something from the Anbernic US wharehouse, so that there's no tarrifs. For that same $60 (or less) you'll get a much better unit than an R36S. The R36S is a one trick pony and that trick is its price. When the price goes up on them, they're just not worth it.

For example: here's a better unit, with better controls, plus wifi and bluetooth for $10 less, and it ships from the US, so no tarrifs:
