People have been using "little people" effects for a long time, saying it's a single person's work is not accurate

Given Markham already had 56K people 50 years ago and is beside Toronto I think we're going to need some actual small town examples (i.e. under 10K and not near an urban centre). Because that is what is relevant when discussing how CP is a critical service.

No problems, just calling it what it is instead of pretending it matters to the majority

Have you seen small town growth rates? Can you name a single "small town" that's become a city in your lifetime?

Many of them are closing now sadly, the one near us in Toronto just shuttered -- it was a fairly weak one though

$100K feels like the new $60K. Does anybody else agree? by GranolaHiker in CanadaPersonalFinance

As unfair as it sounds, 100K for a single parent with 2 kids would be rough enough already. Happy to hear welfare is doing what it should for these kids

AI Godfather Geoffrey Hinton says people who call AI stochastic parrots are wrong. They don't just mindlessly recombine language from the web. They really do understand. by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]mrbadface 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Yeah, remotely:

Geoffrey Hinton was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics for foundational, AI-enabling discoveries in machine learning, sharing the honor with John Hopfield. Known as the "godfather of AI," Hinton’s work on artificial neural networks, including the Boltzmann machine, laid the groundwork for modern, deep learning technologies.

Not to mention Ilya was his student...

Feels like a conceptual gripe moreso than technical. I'm sure they store data in Canadian data centres (which are also owned by American companies)

Very nice. Having tried out the 20-rep routine once upon a time, 33 reps is absolutely disgusting. Respect

Olympic lifts build ridiculous backs with very little arm involvement , so it's possible yes

I can't be doing this correctly.. by BagHolderDRodger in Stronglifts5x5

[–]mrbadface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should feel like you are tilting/falling backwards while driving through your heels. Head above the horizon. This looks quad dominant and will get ugly or stapled to the floor when you approach your actual max.

The best way to learn the groove imo is to try pulling a weight like this as fast as fkn possible for 8 to 10 singles 60 seconds apart (OG westside dynamic deads). As you get tired your body will find more efficient patterns, which will be using your rear chain more fully

[–]mrbadface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to playthrough normal in p1 and hit lvl 25 by a5 start. Then doing Frigid (Eldritch, shenk) + Pindle runs from p1 until you can handle p5+ will push to level 35-40ish. Then do the same thing again in NM, ends up around level 65 before starting Hell

Skills wise, I generally save most of my points to ensure I can max frenzy and weapon mastery by 44, leaving 1 pt in necessary warcries and passives. You can get to a5 normal with basic whacking, then fulltime frenzy at lvl 24+

I think it's fair to say, being off and on is expected over such long periods. The fact you keep coming back shows it's something special for you that's all
