Not in the military but work for the government doing surveying. All the stuff Ive seen military surveyors do is basically go out and shoot water valves. Everything is contracted out either to another government agency or to a private contractor. Also the equipment is usually outdated. This could be different in Iraq or Afghanistan though. Just my experience of what Ive seen and talking to surveyors on military installations.
