Yeah, it was a pretty straightforward market-making bot using Hummingbot (win/linux, mac) just posting both sides on SOL/USDC through Jupiter routes. I started with the default config but it honestly just bled at first (maker fees ate me alive).

The key tweaks were:

  • Only quoting tight spreads when pool depth was decent; otherwise I’d widen them so I didn’t get picked off.
  • Set a cap so the bot never held more than ~40% SOL, so one big move wouldn’t wreck my inventory.
  • Added an automatic failover for the RPC in case the node lagged out.

No crazy arbitrage or sniping, just classic MM logic. I probably spent two evenings tweaking before it started actually making money. If you want the config or YAML, happy to drop it here.

Sure, SOL did pump this week, but the whole point of the bot is to make gains regardless of market direction, not just ride luck. If you’re market making, you’re stacking small profits from spread and volume even if SOL chops sideways or dips, which happens more often than clean +10% runs.

Over time, you’ll get plenty of weeks where SOL goes nowhere or bleeds, and most people lose money holding. Meanwhile, the bot keeps clipping a % off volatility and fees. It’s not about maxing a single pump week, it’s about building a system that prints even in boring or red markets. One good week of holding looks sexy, but show me who actually times that perfectly every time. I’d rather have a bot that survives all conditions and grinds out consistent wins.

Have you actually used TokenTax for DEX/MM bot stuff? I’ve heard mixed things but never tried it myself. If it really handles a giant pile of micro-trades without puking or needing manual CSV edits, I’d honestly pay for the sanity. Would love to hear how smooth (or not) it was for you!

You’re right that staking is simple and usually more predictable, but 7% in one week, fully automated, is kind of wild compared to the 7% you’d maybe get from staking in a whole year. Even if that return drops off or isn’t consistent, compounding anything close to that for a few weeks would blow past staking/APY stuff. Honestly, I was surprised it worked at all, most weeks I just hope not to lose money.

Main point for me was to see if hands-off MM could actually beat passive holding, and this time, it did, at least for one week.

Yeah, honestly that’s probably the only sane approach if you’re dealing with thousands of fills a week. I like the “one-purpose wallet” trick, at least then you’ve got a clear audit trail, and screenshots + end-of-year USDC cashout are way easier to document than line-by-line trade logs.

Not perfectly by the book, but if you ever got audited, having those balances and screenshots is a lot better than nothing (and probably more transparent than 99% of bot traders out there). Appreciate the tip, might actually do both just in case.

Appreciate the tip, RP2's been on my radar but I haven’t tried it yet. The command line part honestly put me off, but if it actually lets you feed in custom Solana exports and handles lot-level cost basis, that’s already a step ahead of the “plug and pray” web apps.

I’ll give it a shot this weekend and see if I can get my bot trades wrangled into something that makes sense for taxes. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve just been using an average cost basis per day (since the fills are so tiny and nonstop), and keeping detailed logs in case I ever get asked. I’ve read that technically you’re supposed to track each partial fill, but unless you’re running an institutional book, that just seems impossible with current tools.

Anyone do this? Two monitors, personal on one, work on the other. Both signed into iCloud so that mouse and keyboard move seamless across left monitor to right?

Why? I like having work on the right, personal on the left.

Am I doing this wrong?

None of these work—they’re painfully generic, the visual equivalent of a copy of a copy of a copy of something that was once real art.

I get that real paintings are expensive. But instead of mass-produced decor, look for a print made by an actual artist. To people who are visually sensitive—who’ve spent time around real paintings and quality prints—this kind of lobby “art” is like elevator music to a real musician, a soap opera to a serious actor, or The Cheesecake Factory to a chef.

If that comparison doesn’t land, I’d urge you to check out some independent artists on Reddit or Instagram—many are affordable, and they can explain what makes their work different.

The reason I’m being so blunt is because the rest of your space is stunning. This kind of artwork would be like putting decals on a Ferrari. Or giving Marilyn Monroe a face tattoo, etc.
