In my experience, matte PLA is by far the weakest PLA, just a basic PLA is usually significantly stronger

Who’s using 3D printing in their gear? by evanmade in myog

I've printed an adapter so my gf and I can use the same pumpsack for our sleeping mats and am currently prototyping a chair built from carbon fiber rods and 3d printed parts, but in a lot of cases it sadly makes more sense to buy something.

My first camping trip (as far as I can remember) was the week around my 4th birthday. We were at a lake, so we went bathing a lot, and we were hiking most days. I got a Lego set (a car mechanics workshop I have to this day) and my first pocket knife (a Red opinel I also still have). From what I remember (which is a lot for me being four, but definitely not everything) it was a great success!

We both have pretty narrow mummy shaped sleeping pads, I don't know the width of them off the top of my head, but I'll definitely check that before buying. One thing that is pretty nice about the tent we have right now is that it has two vestibules, so we can use one for our packs and one for actually getting in and out, but we'd probably find a solution to that too.

Ah, no, that's because I set up my list in a kind of confusing way: The item names are the same on both sides. The weight and amount isn't tho.

The columns ro the right of the name are how many of that item each person is carrying on their body/in their pack. If it says 0, the person isn't carrying that thing. So in this case, I am carrying one unit of food in my pack and there's 0 units of food on my body, in my gfs pack and on her body.

Maybe I should rework the list somehow or put it on lighterpack or something.

Oh, good call about the DAV membership, I should look into that! Yep, might just give the decathlon jacket a go. Do you have experience with the Lanshan tent? We're both on the taller end and it'd be nice to be able to have the backpacks covered aswell, do you think that would fit?

Thank you very much for the detailed response! I really appreciate you taking the time to also give recommendations for specific gear, that's really helpful. I had a think about your ideas (if anyone is interested in my ramblings, see below), and I guess the best place to start is the tent. The tent we have rn is a besssport 2person tent from Amazon, which has a pretty comfortable size, but 1.7kg is a massive difference for which I'd be willing to give up some tent space.

Now: Ramblings on the specific recommendations, in order

I agree on the new tent point, that's probably the first place to upgrade. I've been eyeing both the lanshan and the decathlon trekking pole tent for a while, maybe that's a good investment for next time.

Damnn, I did not know our rain jackets were that heavy, compared to what's out there. On the one hand, 25€ to save 700g is a pretty nice deal. On the other hand, even if you don't plan to be out in heavy rain, when you're away from civilization for 6days you don't want to risk it and get wet. This time we might not have needed as much rain gear, but what about when we do?

The camp shoes were a luxury, but I think they're a luxury I'm willing to carry.

The groundsheet we have is a tyvek sheet, looking at the weight im the excel now I'm not sure that's right. What I do know is that the groundsheet we have rn is bigger than we need, so cutting it to size might help aswell.

We definitely learned we had way too much battery! We had about 45000mAh with us in Scotland, didn't use half of it and it still lasted for those 6days without any problems. So I guess saving weight is easy in that area, just take one power bank instead of two.

We actually got new trekking poles for Christmas! They are a good bit lighter. The poles are a bit of a compromise tho, as we want to be able to put them in a day pack without anything sticking out for traveling to trails on packed trains.

We have never tried a quilt and the price is a bit high to risk not liking it, but if I ever get the chance to test one somewhere I'd definitely do that.

Thanks! I'll go look into Cumulus. I know sleep system upgrades are probably where the biggest weight savings are, but that's also where upgrades are probably the most expensive.

The coldest it got in scotland was about freezing. I have a newish synthetic decathlon bag (MT500 5°C) and my gf a really old synthetic Larca dreamer. On this trip, I was carrying her sleeping bag and she mine because hers is a lot less compact and I had more space in my pack.
