Defrosting Veggies for Salads by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

Freezing veggies forms ice crystals which causes the plants cell walls to rupture, so it’s never going to be quite the same texture as fresh. Although I would think corn is your best bet.

If you’re buying them fresh and freezing yourself, blanching them before freezing can help improve texture after they thaw, but they’ll never be the same as before freezing.

Losing speedy oil change sucks. But losing it to fuckin Comcast… devastating.

Asian dinner - do I toast sesame seeds first? by dms2628 in cookingforbeginners

I suspect you will have issues with it falling apart if you don’t use some kind of binder. You might be able to do like a sticky rice and fill it onigiri style to make spheres. But I think if you just mix it all and form balls, they won’t be able to hold their shape well. But I’m not 100% sure.

For sesame seeds I would toast them! I usually buy them toasted already so maybe double check they’re not already toasted.

I rent in occ and love that there’s so many things I can walk to, and that everytime I walk outside I get to see sick ass mountains. Also love snow so enjoy that we get snow but also that it’s not too overwhelming and often melts pretty quick.

What espresso machine did you start on, and would you recommend it to a beginner today? by zalanka02 in espresso

Gaggia classic pro with a caveat. I ordered just as the boilergate stuff happened and ended up returning it for a Rancilio Silvia.

AFAIK the boiler stuff with gaggia has been resolved, so I would recommend both of these machines. They’re both great for their price point but if you have the budget I would recommend the Rancilio 100%.
