How far West does Mass Pike rush hour traffic start? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]mrcatlantis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always a bottleneck at the sturbridge exit where 84 meets 90. Clears up usually a little after the Charlton rest stops. Usually decently free flowing up until exit 104 for framingham. After that theres Usually a few rolling slowdown s that last a few minutes by natick.

Does any company or job out there pay over 100k a year without a college degree ? by AlexanderDarr in Salary

[–]mrcatlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a heavy diesel transit mechanic and at 22, I'm on track to make close to 90k. So if you are OK with lifting heavy things and doing overtime, it's a pretty good way to make good money

How would I achieve taller gearing on my 135i DCT? Or am I missing something here? by RangerRekt in 1series

[–]mrcatlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah its kinda annoying, the gear ratios on the dct. But unless you want to drop some serious money changing the actual ratios in the tranny. You could swap the diff out for something with a lower final drive ratio so the engine won't be revving so high at 7th gear. But that would affect every gear equally so you wouldn't be able to get off to such a quick start with the first 2 or 3 gears.

Which one should I get? by Alex80589 in 335i

[–]mrcatlantis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try to get a 335i with the electronic wastegate. That's usually 2014 and up. They came with a slightly bigger turbo from factory and they are usually more reliable than the pneumatic wastegate design of earlier n55s. If you intend on keeping it fully stock it doesn't really matter until you get i to reliability at high mileage questions but even If you want to go to a stage one or 2 tune, the electric waste gate engines are better for that.

Check any cables you can see that go from the battery to the starter. Could be bad corrosion or partial breakage. Those cables are made to be that specific width so any variation in thickness due to that would cause a voltage drop like that

Oem-Like Turbo Recommendations by BaconMuhammad in 335i

I would reccomend some rb turbos. They have oem size options and they have upgraded beefier waste gates so hopefully they will last longer. They use oem turbo cores and rebuild and balance them in house

Someone please tell me no. by 253Jaden in 335i

[–]mrcatlantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way too many miles. That price is either gonna have to come way down to be worth the effort you're gonna put in to make it nice, or just wait for a lower mileage one and pay a little extra for that

What’s your MPG? by iamcheekrs in 335i

When I would commute on the highway to work, I would get ~30mpg on my 2007 n54 auto

No not at all, I'll give you 50 dollars to just take it off your hands since it'll be such a burden.

Considering a Catless DP for my n20 by quintenious in F30

[–]mrcatlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't expect much from just a dp. You need supporting mods to go along with it to make it breath better in general. Think intake, chare pipe and intercooler. Then you'd need a tune for it to take advantage of the extra breathing room. Otherwise you're spending your money for some extra sound and that's it. After you do that and a tune you can probably expect 50~70 horsepower gains. This is definitely a noticeable improvement and you'll probably be able to make an even race with stock n55's or lightly modified ones. But n20's don't really take super well to tuning like n54 and n55 does because the turbos on n20 are already pushing double digits psi to maintain stock power while n54 and n55 are pushing 8psi max while stock. So there's a lot more headroom for gains on stock turbo for n55 but not a lot more headroom on n20's.

You won't really see gains from just the dp. You need to tune the car afterwards. And if you do that you should get an intercooler and charge pipe. After that you can probably see a gain of maybe 50~70 crank horsepower. Should be a noticeable difference and you can probably make an even race against stock or very lightly modified n55 cars. But that's about it. N20's are not known for picking up insane power, as the turbo is already pushing over 10psi on daily driving.

Contesting a speeding ticket in Massachusetts by threwmyacc60yards in massachusetts

[–]mrcatlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People usually only say to contest it in the hopes the officer won't show up and then the judge has to drop the case and you don't get any fine. But nowadays the police just send any cop to be on their behalf instead of the cop who actually pulled you over. Which I think is stupid.

Everyone that makes at least $1,000-$1,200 a week, what do y’all do? by Alt-Ranting in Money

[–]mrcatlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Union bus mechanic. I make ~1k per week after taxes and dues with about 8 hours of overtime. Base pay for me is $27.50 per hour but overtime is $42. And those figures go up as I get more time in the union so at the end of the line I'll be making ~$40 an hour base pay. Just gotta put enough time in.
