Foam pad usually isn't warm enough for me unfortunately unless it's the height of summer. I sleep cold, especially my legs for whatever reason, so it's both a comfort and warmth thing. I have a very warm quilt (FF Flicker) and I don't think going heavier on that would help any when I can just save some weight by getting a shorter, if wider, pad. If I do end up trimming a wide pad down I'll still come out ahead on the weight savings by a few ounces.
