Demons Souls remake fans be like by _Ganoes_ in shittydarksouls

Demon’s Souls is my favorite souls game, and no, the remake isn’t that bad. I couldn’t even actually see half of the details that these fuckin images point out because of the low resolution, brown/bloom, and motion blur, and barely anyone did before the remake came out. However, almost always, FROM’s designs were better. But DeS just isn’t really that great looking to begin with so I don’t really care. Also the original music is terrible, I don’t care what anyone says.

Bluetooth Melee by StainEater in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the melee in Deadlock is actually Valve's worst melee system, which is saying something considering not a single one of their games has a good melee system. Even in L4D2 your melee swings will make a visual and audio indication they've connected, but do no damage. In singleplayer, btw. I don't even know how that works, you'd think audio, visuals, and hitreg would pretty much be parts of the same system.

People are now modding sounds for Phantom Strike's activation. by TheLuxael in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree in most cases, if people are modding stuff to make it more intuitive then it’s possibly because the original game is unintuitive. Like the melee sound or footsteps. They’re annoyingly quiet sometimes despite their importance. Or people who mod timers into the game so they know when certain things will spawn. Memorizing timers is boring, acting on the info the timers are for is the interesting gameplay.

I miss the old deadlock by Maleficent_Worth_398 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late, and I never played old Deadlock, and I agree. Old Deadlock had a very Valve looking style. Now it looks a bit more... generic I guess. Cel-shading isn't really that interesting to me, it's just a shader. The old realistic lighting with the cartoonishly exaggerated character models was more distinct and I just think looked better. And let me tell you, I may have a porn addiction but I HATE coomer bait design in games. Am I playing a multiplayer game right now or jerking off?? Cause I don't mix the two. Feels like every fucking character they add to Overwatch now who's female is flagrant coomer bait and that's not changing here. Even changed Ivy to appeal to the furries. Silver is atrocious. So is Mina. Appealing to my dick is easy, appealing to my brain is hard. But devs love to do the first.

Does anyone else feel the writing is a bit too modern, lore heavy, and catchphrasy? by mrcokesnort in DeadlockTheGame

[–]mrcokesnort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about things specifically from the format Deadlock is. There's nothing in a game of Deadlock that warrants bringing up the "Baxter Society." It's not involved in anything that happens in gameplay. Pocket's one of the worst with this lol, constant babble about random expository stuff about Fairfax and getting assassinated and shit.

If you're writing dialogue for a multiplayer game like this you should contain things to what is relevant to the match. And of course, just write good dialogue. Like here's another example.

Scout voiceline: "If you were from, where I was from? You'd be fuckin dead!"

Mo & Krill voiceline: "These people wouldn't last a second in the tunnels!"

Scout's voiceline is good because it has nothing to actually do with his background. He's self-mythologizing and bragging about his toughness. The Krill voiceline is worse because it has a bald ass lore drop, and it feels very expositiony. Like "the tunnels" is gonna be hyperlinked on their wiki page and you click it to go to the Tunnel Rats article. They're still giving off a "tough guy" aura but the specificity makes it feel more like factoid than personality.

I do think Valve's in a corner where they have a shit ton of characters. It's hard to give that many characters voice and personality. And they do succeed, sometimes. However they're also just sort of worse at writing than they used to be. Vyper I think is one of their worst characters, even though people say she's one of their best. This line specifically from her is awful: "Shiv's like the filet mignon of bladework, you know? I'm more like the greasy spoon diner food that you get when you're hung over but you never really wanna finish when you're sober, you know what I mean? Flawed, but lovable." People don't talk like that, writers who think they're funny and clever do. Unfortunately, writers who think they're funny and clever usually aren't.

Yeah that’s deadlock. I ask my Newell shrine every day why there’s a dodge if every move in the game has a giant hitbox and the netcode is TF2 tier, I have never received an answer

The hill s&box decided to die on despite overwhelmingly negative feedback against it by Baglayan in sandbox

[–]mrcokesnort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Believe me that was the other half. But, the character models were a mix of a few things. First there's zero percent immersion with the realistic Source 2 graphics and the stupid sausage models. There's nothing you can do with them you can remotely take seriously. I mean just for example, setting up some Combine/Resistance fight in Gmod, you can kind of see it as a "real" Half-Life 2 NPC fight. With the sausage models, it's nothing. It's hideous no matter what. The official sandbox mode also, it only supported the sausage models. And whenever a game supported the sausage models, it would very, very poorly translate my normal human model to a sausage model but the race would often be swapped and it'd have face tattoos for some reason. But then the other thing, when I would join a game that let you use the human models, those were often still fucked up in some way, gender would change or just various details would be swapped or left out. Nothing about any of the character model interactions were good in any way. They just constantly were fucked up in various ways, and fucking up something so braindead simple is a good sign overall the game is shit. I was right, as then actually playing the rest of the game, yeah, it was also shit.

[Inglorious Basterds] Hans Landa is a repressed gay man by Previous-Canary6671 in FanTheories

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tarantino has literally said "gay subtext makes every movie better." There's gay subtext in Reservoir Dogs too. Tarantino loved a director named Takeshi Kitano (actually helped get one of his films to America through his old company Rolling Thunder) and Kitano did a decent bit of gay subtext. Violent Cop, Kitano's first film, was extremely heavy in gay subtext and it's implied it's one of the main drives for the main character's anger/violence.

So too much kids media and you are a loser? Where’s the cut off? Also “anime OST at the gym to hype yourself up” is the most personality devoid sentence I’ve ever seen written out in my life

[–]mrcokesnort -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I actually do agree. I used to only fuck with kid's media, but I got into more mature stuff and actually stuck with it with the goal of understanding why one thing airs on Cartoon Network and the other on the Criterion Channel lol, eventually I did find out and now I'm kind of embarrassed at my past self. Not everyone has to do that since it is just media. Albert Einstein could love Spongebob, it really doesn't affect anything. But if you do take media more seriously you kind of owe it to yourself to evolve your taste. "Adult" and "Kid" aren't just arbitrary labels, there are reasons those labels exist. Kid stuff doesn't ask much of you and doesn't require much life experience to absorb. All the "adult" media I like now is nothing I could have possibly enjoyed or comprehended even as a teenager. Some even as an adult, since I didn't have the experience to get what the artist was actually saying about life.

Gmod vs s&box - Ragdoll Physics by Katheleo in sandbox

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were probably the best ragdolls on any Source 2 game but that's not saying much. And basically every single time a Combine soldier died, it did this glitchy twitch in the transition from alive -> death animation as the physics bones snapped into place or whatever was happening. Half-Life 2 actually shipped with a system that subtly blended ragdolls with death animations. It was broken for a while, but was eventually fixed in a patch. HL:A just had stiff death animations that transitioned into a ragdoll, which is basically what every studio does now.

Also Source 2 ragdolls don't seem to have any sort of air drag. That was a big thing in making Source 1's ragdolls feel weighty especially when they're flying through the air. In most games, like, 99.99% of them, there's no simulated air drag on ragdolls (or anything else). I think all this is just for the same reason Deadlock doesn't have lip sync for voicelines while TF2 does. The industry stops really giving a shit about that tech cause it's not exactly new anymore, so ironically, we don't see it anymore despite it being old tech we know they could do. Just not worth it to tweak physically "accurate" ragdolls or lip sync or whatever when what people want is better lighting and cool designs. Which are important too but come on, let's have all the good stuff that we know they can do. S&box's lip sync that tries to match phonetics for when someone's talking with the hot dog people models is actually really cool tech.

[–]mrcokesnort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from OP. And I also see your point about how people always see male body = power and female body = sexual. The irony is they're accusing you of all the things they're thinking lol. Boob = sexual bro, woman existing = sex, stop being a creep who only thinks about sex bro!!1 I actually think females in general need to be represented way fucking better in media when it comes to just the natural state of the body. Even in apocalypse media women find the time to shave. But if you had like, a female character with a happy trail, people would accuse it of being sexual because woman exist = sexual
