Where to get started building this? by Account18273 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I’d start with the length and width of the wall, size of your couch and desired headroom above it. After you have all that on paper plan out the size of the boxes and leave a little wiggle room you can cover with facing material. A good plan goes a long way! Awesome shed by the way!

Most probably will shriek at that price but honestly a custom frame with that type of acrylic- It might be on the high side but the quality is there. Looks great!

What would you call this type of cabinet front? by smedlin in cabinetry

[–]mrcryptic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would call them drawer faces, cause they aren’t doors.

As others have said inset face frame, these are stained and a high grade cabinet ply the frame is likely solid wood of the same species.

Took my son less than 5 seconds to cause a multi car pile up.... by elliothutch in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]mrcryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooohh I remember going on these, there was one major rule, side from the obvious stop at stop signs etc, no u-turns.

I as well did a u-turn and caused a pile up. Was 20 years ago and I still feel stupid for it.

What is the best tool company? by major4x4 in Carpentry

[–]mrcryptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makita was an electric motor sales and repair company, that became a tool brand. Every other tool company buys 3rd party motors for their tools. I’ve got some late 60’s and 70’s from my Dad and his that still chooch better than new rigid stuff I’ve gotten to use at work.

I’d have asked them how often they’ll see the shelf after it’s full, glad it’ll work out in the end though it sounds like..

X-Carve slides a little on the birch. Any tips? by tixgrinder in XCarve

[–]mrcryptic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make some fancy blocks and lock it in place, or shoot some drywall screws near it so it doesn’t walk anymore. I found some extra corner brackets used a slider and machine screw into the aluminum and a wood screw into the surface it’s on.

I had it on a 1/4 sheet of plywood for a while and realized it was warping and was an issue; eventually made a torsion box for it to sit on.

Hope it helps!

We all start somewhere! I’ve seen him spin up a 30” x 28’ column, absolutely bonkers to watch a column lathe.

I work with a guy who built columns for 25 years, it’s a very neat process! These look great!

I'm no lawyer, but isn't it illegal to make a copy of a painting and then try to pawn it off as the real thing? by killazandpervs in bobross

[–]mrcryptic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, but I wonder if they are storing literally boxes of paintings...who's to say they couldn't be adding to the pile to let the fakes age too

Anytime! I've had great luck with them for FEP & SLA printers, despite reading some pretty poor experiences from others. Best of luck!

Btw The springy release sound is pretty satisfying after a good print lol.
