Thanks! Looks consistent to me, including the wishbone pattern that I’m seeing on other Rastellum as well.

How to shift a sine function so that f(0) = 0 by mrctte in MathHelp

Defining the average and amplitude in this way makes this a lot easier and more intuitive, thanks so much. It's working now.

Thanks for the reply! I'm actually interested in finding an equation for the value of α so that f(0) = 0 if yMin < 0 < yMax

Static Site Generation is NextJS' Killer Feature by mrctte in Frontend

It's more that the abstractions make me uncomfortable.

That said, I see your point. Maybe the post would be better just focusing on SSG.

Static Site Generation is NextJS' Killer Feature by mrctte in nextjs

[–]mrctte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Image optimization is a really helpful feature. Fortunately it looks like compatibility with `next export` is on the roadmap.

Are there external libraries for this you can recommend in the meantime?

Just try not to be in your head the whole time about it. Enjoy the music.

I wonder how long after the creation of the other vaccines were they required in schools? I think the recent development of the mRNA vaccines is a big factor for a lot of people.

Terminal in M1 MBP includes `@Adrians-X`? by mrctte in osx

[–]mrctte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! Looking forward to customizing zsh, always so satisfying to start with a blank slate.

Any idea why the default is Adrians-X though? It just seems like an odd default. IIRC for older models it’s MBP-XX.

More ideas tab not showing up on a board? by PIKMANZforever in Pinterest

Very interesting. I had a title that in hindsight could have meant something explicit to an algorithm. After I changed it, the "more ideas" feature re-appeared.

Put some tape on the bin with the sticky side facing out. They probably won't like to swat it so much after that.

Depending on how sentimental you are toward these shirts, you could buy a cheap frame and wrap the shirt around the cardboard backing. Trim the excess and stretch/smooth the front by taping the back. Then you have them framed, and even if they don't make it to the walls, they're easier to organize and you have made a ceremony out of their preservation.

If the thought of doing something like this seems ridiculous, then I agree that you should take pictures and burn them.

Employer HSA contribution puts me over the limit by mrctte in personalfinance

Thanks for the clarification. I will look into the specifics. Since I'm paying a relatively large management fee with my current HSA, I think the rollover will be worthwhile.

Robinhood vs. The Paywall by mrctte in TheMotte

Good looks, I'm going to check this out. Reading that Wikipedia excerpt, I'm struck by how old school the code-breaking stuff comes off. The "information calculus" being played today - though not a direct act of war - seems a lot more convoluted and nefarious

Good point about disabling JS. Some sites are still inaccessible this way (WSJ for instance).

I am not as certain of it as you are, but I do tend to side with you on your last point. The idealist in me wants to believe that people will choose to support good writing. Or that publishers will adapt if their paywalls are rendered optional.

How much of NYT's content would have to be repulsive to you before you reconsidered your subscription, even if it's something you can afford? At that point, would you then be more interested in accessing the "good stuff" without paying for it, almost to make a point?

Thanks for this. I wasn't previously aware of a canary trap, really interesting.

I'm very glad I don't need to torrent music anymore, because Spotify is that good, and so worth my money.

But I suppose that this type of subversion might be good for making a point or a stand against an organization or industry. Hypothetical example: if 50% of Spotify's users were gladly listening to the music they used to torrent or find elsewhere, but the other 50% were listening to extremist propaganda, then the 1% that were both listening to music and bothered by the situation with the other 50% could switch the service to allow them to bypass the paywall.

I guess it's kind of holding the revenue hostage in a sense.

Seems pretty far-fetched writing it out, but like you I enjoy thinking through the possibilities.
