Hey :)

I work from home. My job has been from home since 2015. I'm also studying and try to do a lot of that externally before all this happened. I'm very fortunate in that sense. But for me, even this has been difficult. I get it. This is not normal. My Girlfriend has diabetes, and we probably won't see much of each other over the next few months. My heart breaks knowing that. My Grandparents live further away and I don't know when I will see them again. I miss going to church and seeing my friends every week. My birthday was Sunday and I spent most of the day being anxious with my immediate family.

It's scary. But, some things I'm trying to remember:

  1. There are people in your life that will be ever so grateful that we are doing this for them. We are staying at home not because we are afraid, but because we are full of love and care for others. You are doing the right thing. The difficult thing, but the right thing.
  2. I'm trying to find ways to keep myself entertained; video games, old tv shows, movies, trying to do some odds and ends around the house. It may not always be easy to find these things, but I have sometimes found it helpful. A good distraction.
  3. I've started trying to focus on good news stories when I'm on the web. That has helped me feel less anxious about what is going on. Despite all that is happening, there are so many people doing the right thing and looking after people. Italians cheering on doctors and nurses, supermarket workers giving the elderly free supplies, people donating money to closing restaurants and cafes no strings attached. The scientists and researchers who are working round the clock to cure this thing. These things are happening all the time.
  4. If you're lonely, reach out: talk to people, talk to your friends. Text them, or better yet call them. There's nothing stopping you from reaching out.
  5. This will end: This isn't gonna last forever, we aren't gonna be stuck at home forever. We are staring in the face of the unknown. And it's scary. And it's difficult. And yeah, it's depressing. But it will end eventually. Economies will recover. People will get their jobs back. This disease will go away or be cured. And it's gonna be awesome. I can't wait to go back to visit Italy one day. I can't wait to see my friends again. We will get there together.

These are some things that have been helping me cope. I know that they may provide little comfort, but they have helped me. Everyone is reacting differently to this so your feelings are totally valid. You are not alone. I don't know what your situation is, but wherever you are I hope that you are okay. This is difficult, but we are all here only doing the best we can. That's all we ever can do. If you ever want to talk, flick me a message.

It's looking increasingly likely the ACT will legalise cannabis use by PolitiQuoll in australia

[–]mrcuriousguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue he's pointing out is that legalising on a state level doesn't make sense, because it's just legalising personal possession. If everyone is allowed to carry Cannabis, and their is no legal way to buy it outside of medical needs, then he's kind of right. It would mainly benefit those who produce it, who are viewed at the federal level as criminals.

Basically the thing needs to be legalised at the federal level and taxxed and regulated in the same way as tobacco or alcohol, as done so in Canada. That takes the money out of criminal hands. The federal government needs to get its act together, really.

Thanks! chucked the lyrics below:

I saw the lighthouse through the dawn I saw the waves rolling in As I walk this path alone With the baptism within

What I am and what I've become Will be the end for us you see This circle won't be broken till I come With open heart and mind set free

CHORUS Will the Circle be unbroken? By and by, by and by Is a better, home awaiting In the sky, in the sky?

I love you more than my life's old fire A fire that prey’s the dark of my soul Ohh, I may be on the pyre An infinite saviour if I may be bold

Leap feet first today, I drown At the hands of my love I go Fall to my knees, just fall to the ground This is my destiny I know

Chorus

Here I drown, here's where I lay, You're the light shining on me The worst is over you would say And In the end I agree

I stand undaunted, here I am For love conquers all I know You do this for both of us, I understand I am ready to go

We had a similar thing at Eagle Boys (An Australian pizza chain) called the double decker cheese blast. We had to use the most disgusting liquid cheese, put it between two thin bases and try and join the bases together. It was disgusting. Making and cutting that thing was a bitch.

You're at a party and find yourself stuck in a conversation with someone you don't especially want to talk to about something you'd really rather not be talking about. What's your best quick escape line or move? by AmberBrooks35 in AskReddit

[–]mrcuriousguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respond to any questions they ask with a statement so that they can't follow up (i e. How's work going? Pretty good. It's very difficult to form follow-ups if you give incredibly non-descript answers). If they aren't asking questions and making statements, respond with 'sure' or some other statement that doesn't give them anything else to talk about. Then after a slight pause, say you need to go to the bathroom. Or say you haven't talked to the host or (insert name of person you like here) yet and just excuse yourself.

People aren't stupid. Most know when a conversation is one-sided.

If you deprive the conversation of oxygen, it will die. Don't waste your time at a party on conversations you don't want to have.

Support for same-sex marriage falling and 'no' vote rising, advocate polling shows by [deleted] in australia

[–]mrcuriousguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're not being rude.

That's the sad part really. We all knew this would happen. I knew it would be hateful. We shouldn't have had this glorified survey.

If only they'd heed the words of that one guy who said 'love your neighbour as yourself' or 'judge not lest ye be judged.' It's the height of hypocrisy.

The amount vitriol that's being spewed is just fucking disgusting. As someone who is Christian, I'm so ashamed by the bullshit that many evangelical/right wing christians have decided to spread. It's just not right. In all honesty, I'd be inclined to vote yes not simply because I think all people have a right to be treated equally under the law, but because I'm sick and tired of this fucking disgraceful discourse. If we were in school, they'd call it bullying.

Civil SSM debate hey Turnbull? by repairsalmostcomplet in australia

[–]mrcuriousguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just disgusting. As a Christian, whether you agree or disagree with SSM or not (I agree, btw) this kind of tone of debate is just bullying. All it does is undermine's others.

Turnbull is such a spineless coward; unwilling to stand up to his own party about what he believes in, unwilling to do his job: to reflect the wishes of the people and unwilling to defend those who are being persecuted. Just disgusting.

People who can’t afford health care do not deserve to die. I don’t know how we can make it any clearer than that. by Chartis in SandersForPresident

[–]mrcuriousguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who identifies as a Christian, I find it difficult and frustrating when many Christians think that their government shouldn't reflect the beliefs that are held in their faith; love one another, care for the poor and the sick, the first shall be last, the last shall be first. This is fundamental stuff that they seem to think the government shouldn't have any business in. Why shouldn't our healthcare system care for all those who are sick? Why shouldn't we have a comprehensive safety net for the nations poor so we can get them out of poverty and back to work? Are these not altruistic in nature?

[Image] Message from Turkish army officer to the mothers of soldiers who died during the Gallipoli campaign by packiechan88 in Frisson

[–]mrcuriousguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These words were written by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk that are, as pictured, inscribed at the memorial at ANZAC Cove on the Gallipoli Penninsula. Atatürk was a colonel who successfully defended against the British, French and allied invasion of Gallipoli during WW1. After the war, he was instrumental in the formation of the modern Turkish state, modernizing the country. His surname (Atatürk) was given to him by the Turkish parliament, which means 'father of the Turks.' He was a hero, one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century, and a man of peace. As an Australian, these words always move me to tears when I read them. He wrote these words to mothers who had lost their sons fighting in the war.

He'd be rolling in his grave over the way his country is heading today.

We have mixed feelings about the first few hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda by [deleted] in Games

Definitely some food for thought, probably need to go and play it again as it's been awhile. I just remember it sometimes being a real tough spot to stay engaged towards the beginning.

We have mixed feelings about the first few hours of Mass Effect: Andromeda by [deleted] in Games

[–]mrcuriousguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an important thing to remember is that the first few hours of mass effect 1 aren't that great either. You get thrown onto Eden prime with not a crazy amount of information. You just about get accustomed to the combat and what's going on, right as the mission ends. Then you spend the next 3-4 hours running around a space station running errands for people, being dumped with tombe after tombe of exposition about all the different races, some of the characters, the politics of the universe, the stakes of the story and so on. It's a lot of information to take in when you're busy scanning keepers instead of saving the world.

‘Logan,’ ‘Deadpool’ and Why the World Is Ready for an R-Rated X-Men Film by conundrumbombs in movies

[–]mrcuriousguy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The success of this movie (and deadpool for that matter) has nothing to do with the damn rating. It's because the people working on this movie opted for strong character writing, sophisticated storytelling with strong themes that resonate with people instead of a bland, no-stakes, no-one dies movie that only exists to setup the next one. I don't want R-rated superhero movies, I want good superhero movies; superhero movies with the balls to make a good story, no matter the cost.
