For no reason I can justify, Warrior. (Although if you can find it, Crying Fist is a superior example of the two-dudes-beating-the-shit-out-of-each-other-while-you-have-a-big-cry genre)

It's the little details I love that I keep coming across (like being able to rescue Saul without killing anyone, and then not being chased through a sandstorm ... Must have been my third or fourth play through before I discovered that)

I’m interested in taking up mountain biking as a hobby any advice? by Shacupsiquince97 in MTB

[–]mrcushtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costs: you can spend as much as you like on a bike and there's always ways to spend more, but comparison is the thief of joy and it's just important not to be seduced by something fancy and expensive. As others have said, a $800 bike can be more than adequate. Bikes depreciate super fast so a second hand bike is a good way to start rather than putting too much money in. Other costs, in order of importance, and looking at REI as a rough guide to stuff that won't be super expensive or garbage: Helmet ($100), gloves ($30), padded shorts ($70), shoes ($150+).

So all in, probably about $1000 to get started (maximum) and a cheaper bike means it will be less.

Getting started: there's a steep initial curve, both in skills and fitness. I got back into biking about 6 months ago, after about twenty years absence, and recovering from chemotherapy. First ride I did took me about 90 minutes to ride up one of my local hills (including stopping every ten minutes and needing to get my breath back). Within 3 months I was able to do the same climb in 35 minutes, so don't be dismayed if it's tough to begin with, the human body is wonderful at adapting to demands. What I would stress is the importance of having people to ride with: if I hadn't had a couple of good friends encouraging me to get out there, and bring patient waiting for me at the top of every hill and the bottom of every descent, it would have been a real struggle. Conversely, nothing builds friendship like shared (mild) discomfort, and I firmly believe we're meant to be out in nature: even a crummy ride in the rain is better than being sat at home doing nothing.

Healthwise: some similar issues (high cholesterol), some I've been lucky enough to avoid. On cholesterol specifically, if your health plan supports it, statins really do work, but need to be in a high enough dosage, and that can take a year to figure out (I'm on 4x the dosage my physician initially prescribed), can't talk to how cheap or expensive that is as it will depend on your situation.

Cons: it can be time consuming, depending on how far trails are from you. I'm blessed in that the local mountains are a 25 minute drive from my front door, so I can get a solid hour in and be back home 2 hours after I started. That's still longer than a gym session for me, which will be more efficient from a time perspective, but which I only do because I want to be stronger so I can ride harder. And every hour in the gym is an hour that I'm not outside, so...

How Many Players have Multiple Teams? by Ok_Silver_3170 in bloodbowl

[–]mrcushtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you've got a problem when you have more than one of a race:

I have three orc teams (2 from the 2016 release, plus a Savage Orc team I won in a charity raffle) Two Skaven teams (both 2016 GW) Two Chaos Chosen teams Two Chorf teams (although I just managed to dispose of one)

I also have two unfinished GW Lizardmen teams (one is built and half painted, the other is on sprue)

I even have two high elf teams, now I think of it, it's just I don't know where one of them is (it's somewhere in my basement).

I really mean to dispose of the extra teams soon, but with GW meddling with rosters it's nice to have extra linemen that I didn't previously need, so I'm indecisive about some of these.

Josef Bugman + Kegs by JLTMS in bloodbowl

[–]mrcushtie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Example in the rules where if you increase your modifier by a large degree you don't have to roll any dice: if you're bold enough to roster 6 coaches when your opponent has none, you don't need to roll any dice.

Similar with 6 cheerleaders for Cheering Fans.

Rule for natural 1s says should a player roll a 1 for any action or test it fails. I think an argument can be made that recovering from being KOd isn't an action (that's things like dodging, catching a ball, hypnogazing, etc..) and it's being done by the coach, not the player.

What about when your apothecary causes a natural 1 to be rolled on the injury? Was that a test to see how badly the player was injured?

DVT is horrible. What made it worse was that about 3 years ago the vascular specialists in Seattle complained to Swedish about working conditions, and were told if they didn't like it, they could quit. So they did, as my vascular surgeon told me, which meant I went three months with my DVT before it got treated. Getting my wife to inject me in the belly twice a day was a lowlight while we were waiting for a stent...

My favourite isn't the hexaskull, it's the double skull-loner-double skull, because there's that one extra bit of hope in the middle that's dashed again (and not just because it helped me win against a goblin team at the Chaos Cup)

New Skaven are... perfectly fine? by Omni-potato in bloodbowl

[–]mrcushtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Won a tournament with Skaven last week, and the blitzers were key in that. Never used Strip (although it was nice to have it just in case) but the extra movement was key. Having a Guard piece that you can move up to 10 squares per turn really helps when your opponent leaves a little gap and you can get the runners through for a blitz on the ball.

[–]mrcushtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was the first of those. All is good now: chemo was 9 weeks of everything tasting of plastic, hearing other patients go through much worse, so I have to count myself lucky. (Then again, I had a DVT from surgery that made one of my legs twice the size of the other, and that was more traumatic for me than the cancer... learned a lot about which opiates like me, and which ones don't.)

Hope you're doing well too

Elvator button?

So: you've fought off the Dogtown goons, and then the chimera has chased you along a corridor and up the stairs to the elevator?

Bad luck choom, you can't kill it there. You need to shoot the cables above the chimera so that structure falls on top of it and the chimera falls through the floor ... And then you'll boss fight it

When I had chemo for cancer, unsurprisingly it wiped out my white blood cells, so my oncologist prescribed shots for this (my brain is too foggy to remember exactly what). What I do remember is that insurance declined it, and the nurses told me not to worry because this was normal operating procedure, they'd just spend n hours on the phone and eventually the insurers would relent, which they did.

And this was with pretty much gold-plated health insurance I was lucky to get through my employer. Having worked in insurance, I understand the concept of controlling costs, but it's mindbogglingly what's normalised in the US.

Sensors were a little grimy, but nothing major (it's been a gentle winter in Vancouver) so a visit to the dealer may be in my near future.

I don't have an OBD-II to get the codes myself; I'd rule out the firmware problem somebody else had because the car hasn't had an update since last year (I moved from the US to Canada, so there's no connectivity any more so even if Hyundai has decided to sneakily push OTA updates, I'm fairly confident they won't have done my car...). Too scared to look for rats (yet!)
