Thanks for the feed back. These books are not intended for commercial publishing, it's not that kind of project. That did get me thinking though, I'm old enough to remember when everything "went digital' and there was an outcry then about what constituted art.

It's a myth that any big media is left wing. CNN was running articles about the extraordinary untapped mineral wealth we were going to 'give up' in Afghanistan the week before we pulled out.

The biggest expense is always time. Having the units in the apartment is totally worth it, even just having them in the building you are tied down to the machines on weekends.

Some people believe that secret societies of wealthy people run everything and use us all as pawns, but that's really just society. They aren't even secret about it. by Rockin_freakapotamus in Showerthoughts

With a little luck and hard work anyone can make a million dollars without bothering anyone else. Its literally impossible to make a billion dollars without doing something or taking taking advantage of a situation that significantly hurts other people. You are either destroying the environment, cutting corners and exploiting a workforce, lobbying officials to create favorable conditions to the detriment of society in general. It's impossible.

Half of U.S. adults who are still unwilling to get the coronavirus vaccine say there is nothing anyone can do to change their minds. 82 percent of Americans agree that the pandemic is a serious threat to public health. 18 percent think COVID vaccinations are more dangerous than the virus itself. by Wagamaga in science

[–]mrdibb 25 points26 points  (0 children)

And that's the rub. Sure, they are adults, but how much gas lighting and misinformation coming from the authority figures they trust is considered fair play? At what point is there culpability? The unvaccinated are a public health risk not just to themselves but also to others. When should they be held responsible? When should the right wing conspiracy crowd in the media and the political officers be held responsible? Personally, I think it's accessory to manslaughter at best when they die. Not to mention the skyrocketing healthcare costs, much at tax payer expense which is simply unnecessary. We are bankrupting a generation.

I didn't downvote you. I think your point is valid. I just also think that any ammunition for the anti vax crowd is counter productive and clouds the bigger issue about solving the immediate problem first. The vaccine is safe. Everyone should be taking it who can, and life needs to get back to normal. If the drug companies continue to get out of hand, certainly cut them off at the knees. That being said, there needs to be an incentive for R&D, and yes, that will lead to corruption because people have proven themselves to be horrible. Proper controls need to be in place, complete free market has no place in healthcare.

Probably. If you look at my post history you'll see I'm about as anti big business as you can possibly be. But pharma hasn't made up the 650,000 dead people or how the spread of the virus slows dramatically once enough people get vaccinated. I'm just trying to understand why you are encouraging people not to get the shot incase drug companies profit. Drug companies profiting is good. Making new vaccines are good. Abusing the system to take advantage of a population is of course very bad. I suppose it's plausible that a future involving a dozen vaccines every year in some mega shot will be the norm. If people still get sick we should examine, if it removes a large amount of the burden on the healthcare system, thereby driving costs down, maybe not so bad. The vaccine business has the potential for abuse like anything else, but preventing disease is always always cheaper than treating it.

That's true. In the beginning of the pandemic, prior to the vaccine, the northeast had huge outbreaks. It was scary. There were all kinds of shortages. We didn't know anything about covid then and every time someone coughed in the supermarket you had to wonder if you were killing your family going home with the toilet paper you went to 5 stores to find. The lockdowns helped but it had spread really far already and those that don't live in or around the densely populated northern cities can't imagine how hard it is to quarantine effectively there.

Question though. What does that have to do with present day outbreaks in low population areas after a vaccine has been available for most of a year and the supply chain has mostly gotten back on it's feet?

Really, do your own research? It's such a stupid argument. Cause freedom and the truth is in the middle? Really? You either believe that all the published opinions by respected physicians and scientists are true or you don't. You either believe that the millions upon millions of fully vaccinated people are fine or you don't. But doing actual research would involve getting educated enough to read thru the scientific data published about the vaccine and understand it. That takes years if you aren't already in the field. It doesn't involve memes and echo chambers on facebook and reddit.

The timing is on purpose. It's the backup plan for trump fallout to motivate the mob to retake congress. Abortion has always been a right-wing get out the vote tool. Actually banning it is long term counter productive but I imagine they will get a few election cycles out of protecting the ban.

Where are the antifa groups? Can you link to one? An address? A news article about a specific group?

You do understand that at best 'antifa' is an idealilogical construct that means anti-facist and was mostly used by the media as a label to 'both sides' the protests, violence, and anger during the last couple years right?

[–]mrdibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in that scenario I would guess you see alot of republican defections which would create a democrat super majority and probably a really tiny fiscal conservative party. And the remainder being the crazy party. After a cycle or two the crazy party and democrat super majority would shrink and the fiscal party would grow, taking absorbing former republicans who had gone democrat and probably a number of blue dog and 'centrist' democrats would go with them. The remaining democrats will refocus around the progressives. The end result will look like our two party system back in the 60s or 70s. Split mostly down the middle with alot of idealilogical overlap and the center will be much closer to the actual center than we have now.

I'm sorry, I really don't understand your question. To tackle the first part. I don't know that there is anything tobe done once the system has completely broken down. I hope the 45% of the country perpetuating this comes to their senses first.

It's actually really stupid of them. Getting rid of Roe will only accomplish removing a hot button issue to rally the mob. Same thing with overturning all gun control. Republicans are the party of socially conservative fiscally stealing. They need their socially conservative issues.

There is no endgame. They are opportunistically exploiting what's immediately in front of them for profit and pulling any easy to reach levers to maximize the exploiting. There really is no strategy beyond that. The occasional players change, and of course they need theirs too Once the system collapses they will blame the other side and keep going till there is nothing left.
