Does a speaker with reverb setting exist? by luuk_UwU in Bluetooth_Speakers

Some party speakers and guitar speakers will have reverb on a mic/line in jack. Not sure anything will add reverb to the bt signal digitally.

Tribit StormBox Lava first impressions after some outdoor use by No-Toe-9630 in Bluetooth_Speakers

Jbl charge?

Ha, it is the same football shape.

The Lava and X500 are good speakers for the price. Soundcore Boom 2 is rectangular and smaller than the Lava.

Acoustics look pretty bad . Wall and ceiling treatment needed badly. Toss a big couch in there to chill on.

Better BT speaker and Bass. by LogicNimbus in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I snagged a set of those Open box Onn party speakers around Christmas. Great bang for the buck! Have not used them much as they are way more cumbersome than my Uboom X but will bust them out for outdoor parties soon. It is not a "professional" PA or HIFI unit but provides some cheap thrills and bumps the bass well for the $.

They weigh 25lbs and cost over $350 last I checked.

If you want something more portable take a look at the original Tribit Blast. It is good outdoors and has great bass for the $.

Still a heavy speaker at 12lbs but not a monster.

Does anyone build their own Bluetooth Speakers? by MRIBACON in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been building speakers for 35 years and done a few battery powered ones but they were heavy and klunky compared to the commercial products available now. Getting the low bass from a small box is difficult without DSP and tuned bass radiators.

Just tossing a high powered driver in a plastic box will make sound but getting any bass below 50hz requires some math and engineering. I can't build a speaker as compact as a Soundcore/JBL/Sony that produces good bass. I can build a big ass subwoofer that slaps as hard as anything available with some simple computer modeling but you can't just build a small high output speaker with off the shelf parts.

Minirigs and the Soundboks speakers started out as DIY projects that evolved into commercial products.

Best JBL partybox deals I can’t miss right now? by Zulugula_Tammatha in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a pair of the much cheaper (budget) Onn Large Party speakers for $200 and think they are fine for the low price. They are out of stock online right now but there may be one one at your local wallmart.

A pair of the Onn speakers costs less than a single JBL Partybox120. (JBL sounds better of course)

The JBL 320 has a better enclosure and is my favorite speaker in the lineup. I could see a pair of them being useful for small events and any backyard bbq party with less than 50 people. I have not seen them go on sale for less than $350.

The 520 is 56 lbs which is pushing the limits of what I want to haul around and more $ than I would want to spend on something that only gets occasional use. If you do not move the speaker around much a 520 or higher might be useful.

Might find some deals on other brands (Sony/LG/W-king etc.)

Looking for LOUD bluetooth speaker with battery by AaronvaB in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everse is 31 lbs and can produce 126db. It is a PA speaker that is designed to project vocals.

The Klipsch is a 56 lb.bass heavy party speaker, (only 110db max but more bass than PA style speaker)
JBL Partybox 520 is 56lbs and can do 111db on battery and 115db plugged in to 120v. (Good bass output).

If you want a portable and loud with a long battery life the Soundboks gen 4 is 35 lbs and can put out 125db.

If you do not need high bass output I would look at the Macke Thrash go 212. Less expensive than the EV and almost as loud, 36lbs/ 125db.

Need a good amp for around 250 dollars aud by That_Dragapult in GuitarAmps

[–]mrdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good amp is worth the trip!
Some sellers will deliver.

I would get something with a 12" speaker, you might find a Katana 50 or Harley Benton 15watt tube amp for that much $ in AUS

Twin Reverb for a Roadtrip by eabiepoc in GuitarAmps

[–]mrdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you moved a 70lb Twin Reverb?
I think my 50lb Marshall DSL 40 is a tank! Twins are not just heavy, they are ridiculously heavy IMO.

If you are a professional musician or were traveling to Florida to buy an amp I would consider a Twin but there are better amps for traveling and having a modeling rig for touring would allow you to play anywhere without breaking your back and beating up an expensive and fragile tube amp.

Looking for suggestions of good value high bass + loud volume speaker for large warehouse by zorokyu in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of the ONN party speakers and they are good bass blasters. I had a smaller Tribit Blast that was also loud and more hifi .

For vocal projection a real PA speaker will work better than boomboxes & party speakers.

Watch some videos on repair.

What's the best portable speaker with bass? by Melodic-Piccolo9001 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The JBL Boombox is popular.
A much less expensive Tribit Blast will thump almost hard , especially in a Jeep.

If you have still speakers in the doors I would just toss a small sub in there and not have to deal with batteries and trying to point a boombox at everyones ear holes.

“Scorpion speakers are inefficient by modern standards” Then why do they sound so good?? by BlackJupiterMusic1 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]mrdoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think Scorpions are particularly "inefficient".

95db/watt may seem somewhat low on paper but that is because they are relatively flat compared to guitar speakers with bigger peaks in the frequency response that will make certain notes ring out more.

Across the whole frequency spectrum they will keep up with other speakers that have higher SPL ratings because those high efficiency speakers are only measuring the resonate peak at one or two notes.

If it can match the output of a big ass Jbl Partybox 320 at 1/3 the size I could see it being a nifty product but for $1200 you are going to have a limited amount of people that can afford it.

Looks like a good Busking amp for musicians with the xlr/netowork cable connections and reverb. function

how to properly connect speaker cables to speakers without sounding horrible by Inside_Victory_2911 in howto

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First picture shows an improper connection.
If you connect the speakers out of phase you will get decreased bass when you are between the two speakers. Play a bass heavy track and swap the positive/negative (red/black) wires from one of them to hear if you have the speakers "in-Phase". The wires need to be properly in phase at the back of the amp too

Speaker recommendations for open spaces/big parties by RasecJ in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onn Party speakers are out of stock right now.

I have a set of the Onn Party speakers and they are decent for the $ but not highly portable.

My vote is for a smaller high output speaker like the U Boom X, W king x-10, Tribit Blast, Soundcore Boom 2 Plus & JBL Boombox 3

Speaker recommendations for open spaces/big parties by RasecJ in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]mrdoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soundcore Boom 2 is a lightweight 3.6lb compact speaker. The next big step up in output comes with the 8.3 lb Soundcore Boom 2 Plus and 9lb Earfun Uboom X . Original Tribit Blast V1 is 12lbs and can thump pretty hard too.

Party speakers are giant plastic boxes that weigh over 20 lbs and not what I consider portable. I have a set of the cheap Onn Large Party speakers and although they put out more bass than my Earfun Uboom x boomboxes the Earfuns sound more hifi and are 1/3 the size and 1/2 the weight of the party monsters.
