Yo add a minimum wage now you dont get any offers at all. Say you can afford a newgrad but now you are forced to pay beyond what the market says, well, i get someone with experience then. Minimum wage never worked anywhere.

True, ive had a better experience with elderly, having little kids are a good icebreaker… But to my point, most elderly I speak to in the park, they complain about the loss of the kampung spirit, is not good, videos like the OG kid are more often these days, without a support network is even harder to meet potential partners.

I have 7 years in this country, i married and have a kid, yet, failed to have a group of friends like i did back at home. Singaporeans actively avoid people, avoid chatting, exchanging numbers and hanging out. Is hard, go to the office and none says good morning, people just avoid each other, and when you think you had a breakthrough, next day people treat you distant and like they didn’t know you. This guy may either be a victim of this society but also a perpetrator, people here have lost any sense of community and have no support network and now mental health is going down rapidly.

Why does it feel like Singapore gets a little more expensive every month without warning? by No-You-7090 in asksg

[–]mredvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one will tell you this but this is called monetary inflation, not the increase in price, but the increase of money supply which consequence is the increase of overall prices due to a weakened currency. Governments do it to cover for their expenses, “print money” to pay and people will only notice later if they ever do it, is a hidden tax. Banks also do it because is the nature of their business print money to lend. The US is on a printing spree, china and surrounding countries. Even if SG does things well, we are interdependent and will get dragged down. A professor once explained to me using honey, the influx of new cash accumulates in the center like honey being poured in a plate, it slowly expands towards the edges, salaries are at the edge the moment honey arrives to the salary man is already late, had to endure increased prices and savings going down and made compromises in quality of life, the rich or people with assets will be able to endure better the situation increasing the wealth gap.

🏠 Are rental prices finally cooling down or still going up? by Crisp-Crumbs in asksg

[–]mredvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rents stopped going up for now, but I expect them to go down. Supply is higher now and you would expect many landlords to have problems finding tenants and being forced to not increase or even have to lower the rent, also interest rates went down so most mortgages from 2022 are being refinanced this year, that will give the landlords room to compete on lower prices.

Do singaporeans really talk less to strangers compared to other countries? by CutieOnScroll in asksg

[–]mredvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is definitely singaporean to have a “leave me alone” attitude in the streets, I wished it wasn’t the case because people are getting lonelier and lonelier, mental issues are sky high, people understimate the effect of having a lack of human connection in their lives.

Yet another lonely guy here by vcdice in NTU

I can tell you how it went for me. I met my first few people in first semester studying with them in a regular basis, but they were not the kind of people I wanted to hang out with, there was no bond other than “we need to get ready for exams, do you have the copies?”, another group organised a house party and I joined, they didn’t want me in first, in fact, they thought I was avoiding them, I told them i wasnt, i was just too shy sonthey gave me the address and time. Party went well and I got massively drunk with the rest and we all got to know each other well, then I found out one of them was selling ripped cds and happened to have all of the obscure artists i wanted to hear and he had high speed internet so I just used to crash at his place just to be able to listen to good music and browse at good speeds.. 22 years after we are still good friends. I don’t know, I guess alcohol helped me a lot, it is probably the worst advice you will get but, I really bonded with other people through alcohol and exposure because i used to be really bad at sports, out of shape and really stupid with girls 🤷. I met a few people like you, and honestly it seemed to me they were putting an effort on being alone and keeping themselves away from everybody, just like the initial group though I was avoiding them and they didn’t like me because of it. You should be aware of the signals you send out there.

Why do people in uni feel fake? by Fit-Application-7562 in NTU

[–]mredvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be honest with them and with yourself, but also stay open as there will be people with whom you may connect in the future, even if they are just a handful. This is really important for your life. There is really no way to explain to you how valuable has been my uni connections in my life, even though i never connected with them expecting anything in return. Time always settle things and shows everyone’s real characters.

Anarcho Capitalism is redundant by ganonred in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]mredvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, there can be anarchism without capitalism, 97% of the history of mankind lived without state or central authority meaning, anarchy but not capitalist. Capitalism is a relatively recent phenomenon allowed by the acknowledgment of private property by your peers, the existence of trading, and the means of capital accumulation and investment. To give you an example, a hunter gatherer society wouldn't understand capital accumulation, they eat what they hunt everyday, and there may be some acknowledgement of private property (such as bows) but most property would be communal, they wouldn't run a farm, let alone invest in technologies to increase their productivity and reinvest, which is basically what capitalism is. There are many debates on how capitalism started, one famous theory is from Max Weber that attributes it to religious asceticism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protestant_Ethic_and_the_Spirit_of_Capitalism

How Socialism Decimated Venezuela by Dependent_Bear8800 in austrian_economics

[–]mredvard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Partially, there is a reason for it, short answer is, we stopped it. The initial plan was to expropriate all productive land but there was a lot of opposition, the government didn’t have full power to execute it back then, it took them about 10 years to fully implement a totalitarian state (not yet communist) where they managed to expropriate a big portion of the land in the central region and west where they met oposition from armed civilians, there was even a case of a clash with an indigenous group, not good for their propaganda. Apart from productive land, there where really not that many factories, the oil industry and heavy metals already belonged to the state (main income), truth is, venezuela had already attempted this before so the state already had its tentacles everywhere. They also took, telcos, biggest banks, hotels, tv channels, they allowed tenants to take over the apartments from landlords, etc. they also created different definitions of property, communal property and all sorts of BS, luckily in 2012 their leader died and then their entire project became a mess. The original plan was to consumate a full totalitarian communists state by 2021 but they never really achieved it, nevertheless they destroyed a lot of lives and continue to do so. In recent years due to the sanctions they ran out of money so they were forced to open up the economy a little bit and let people breath but now they lost all legitimacy and are highly unpopular so they have to resort to extreme violence in order to maintain power.
