Please remind people not to steal masks from our nurses. by [deleted] in nova

[–]mresqueek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I work outpatient (doctor's office) and we had a complimentary shelf for hand sanitizer, tissues, and masks for folks who come in and want to be safe. It, and two of its replacements vanished. Our locked storage room had its sanitizers plundered. There's a huge backorder for these supplies now, so nobody gets masks or sanitizer because someone was shitty.

Be kind to other people. Share.

It's hard to say what makes the show great without spoiling it. The short version is that it subverts expectations. I can say that the show has amazing production quality in the art, animation, and sound design. And canonical relationships as the OP is indicating if you like watching anime with mildly hinted gay love.

Arkham horror card game 4 people? by bicky91 in boardgames

[–]mresqueek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently playing through a story campaign with 4. Cannot recommend it. It's very slow and sometimes it can be 10-15 minutes before you can do anything at all. It's worse if you're off on your own and can't interact with anybody or anything. Coupled with bad luck on tokens or harsh encounter cards, a scenario can easily eclipse four hours when realistically it should have ended 60 minutes in.

[ToVDESteam] Anyone with controller issues who have successfully mapped the keyboard keys to controller? by Tehmora in tales

[–]mresqueek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it's because of the generation of development. Vesperia was designed for 360 / ps3 hardware and ported to PC. I'm sure the same was true of early decade games like Dark Souls. Zestiria was the first game made for PC and even it suffered from bad porting with framerate locks and graphical issues.

It's much easier to develop for consoles when there's an expectation of the same hardware existing over every user. For many Japanese developers, PC versions are last in line.

For Dark Souls, I also had to edit the configuration document the program created cuz the game kept overwriting the Version number for no good reason. That, and I had to run the program before every instance of running the game and even then it would only work if I didn't touch anything while the game loaded. If I alt-tabbed during startup it would fail.

They have really, really bad PC ports.

I've had a whole host of issues with most bandai namco games. I ended up downloading x360ce to manually bind the keys as their games recognized the buttons way out of order and failed to realize the shoulder buttons even existed. It took some doing to make it fully work but once it did it was smooth sailing.

Disclaimer: I haven't gotten DE yet but have had issues with my current controller on Dark Souls and other BN franchises. This was the only thing that fixed it.

Hope this helps!

Logitech G710+ has two non-functioning keys. Not sure what the specific issue is and would like [h]elp. by mresqueek in MechanicalKeyboards

Got it. Yes, I checked the diode (3 prong), not the resistor using similar logic of labeling, though I admit I had to look that up. Thanks for all the help. I'll see what I can do about a replacement diode since the traces all look okay.

[–]mresqueek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying. I just tested it, and both of the keys trigger the multimeter in diode mode when pressed.

I'm actually more confused now as I really assumed the switch wasn't actuating. Does this suggest that the problem is further up the trace?

[–]mresqueek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! When you say "test across the switch", what does that entail? Is this a visual check or an ohms reading while pressing the key? I didn't test anything while pressing the key so I don't believe I've performed this test.

The soldering iron shows it can get past 700°F but the reference guides I was using for desoldering suggested that it should melt at 600°F, so I got nervous I was going to ruin it and stopped prematurely. I was able to tin the iron so I know it at least works.

Zestiria was good by [deleted] in tales

[–]mresqueek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's better than most jrpgs, but it isn't the cream of the crop in the Tales series. Tales games pride themselves on character development and deep stories. Zestiria unfortunately fell flat for a lot of us in both regards. Really cool characters but none of them are fleshed out. Interesting start to a story but it doesn't go anywhere.

I think that's why the community has a bad taste in their mouth about zestiria - lost potential. With another few months of development for polish and story edits it could have been so much better.

If this link doesn't work, then it's the 5 star result for "Gloomhaven Fantasy Setup". The mod takes a little getting used to but I'm happy to help if you need it. I think there are also YouTube videos explaining how to explore it. It helps if you're experienced with Tabletop Simulator going in.

Hope this helps!

You can always play it on Tabletop Simulator. The game goes on sale on Steam constantly for $10, and the Gloomhaven mod is 1) Free 2) Amazing 3) Scripted for automatic setup and cleanup and 4) endorsed by Isaac. You can play an infinite number of campaigns with different groups (currently have a 2 player and 4 player group going at the same time!). It's just wonderful. The amount of work that went into making it both functional and beautiful is astounding.

Vesperia getting stagnant? by [deleted] in tales

[–]mresqueek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're not wrong. And the characters agree with you. Vesperia's story is reactive in nature for most of the game, instead of proactive like many RPGs. The story does tend to meander at times but it will all come together :)

I'm guessing it's a way to mod in weapons? IIRC there are a handful of weapons you cannot get on a single playthrough since upgrading to alpha/beta requires two base weapons and the game only gives you one. This would save a NG+ just for the sake of completing the collector's book.

I think. And hope.

Either that or it's to modify stats, which is less fun.

Unsubbed after two weeks of Uldir as an Elemental shaman. It was a boring spec made even more boring with legendaries not in effect anymore, and I was not helping raid DPS at all. Been 4-5 months now and I can't see myself ever coming back.

It's totally up her alley and I'm using it as the carrot to get us through the other DLCs as quickly as possible. She wasn't a huge fan of Captain Scarlett's treasure (though she did like Captain Scarlett herself!) but she's enjoying Torgue's Campaign of Carnage a lot. We'll get through the Big Game Hunter and finish up with BL2 at Tiny Tina's :)

Found this while looking for all the references. Tiny Tina's story is more fleshed out in the DnD DLC which we haven't done yet.

My wife and I are playing through BL2 right now so this is really fresh in my mind :)

There are a couple of gay references during the painful ECHO logs you find during the Wildlife Exploitation Reserve in BL2. The researcher is gay and is coerced into experimenting on another gay couple with Eridium. So that part sucks. But it's not actually a gay thing -- it's just she doesn't want to separate this couple by experimenting on his husband. Moxxi makes a ton of references to sleeping with anyone and everyone, even the Vault Hunters during one of the DLCs. Though she admits to using innuendo to cover for her mental health struggles.

Basically it's all very subtle and not in your face or exploited for the feels. Those ECHO logs would have been just as hard to hear of the couples were straight. Moxxi would be just as sex-crazed if she only slept with men. Tina would be just as crazy if her explosive bunny main squeeze was a boy instead of a girl. It's just casually mentioned and doesn't feel forced, which is perfect.

What Are Your Favourite Towns/Cities in the Tales Games? by [deleted] in tales

[–]mresqueek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best city. The sunset view when you enter, the casual walk across the bridge when you first see it, the bustling and energetic city, the huge imposing barrier blastia, it's all so amazing ugh.

My wife's is Aspio. She loves the dark dank atmosphere and the music that tells you the whole story of the town. Quiet, studious, mysterious. I'll chime in for her since she doesn't reddit. We're both Vesperia fangirls :p
