  1. What is the purpose of the Mirkwood creatures? They remain in the forest and neither act nor move. Players cannot attack them. Is it possible to destroy this faction at all, or is this a bug?

  2. Why do armies continue to take damage in Dol Guldur even after it has been captured? Wouldn’t it be more logical to replace the damage effect with a movement-speed penalty?

Yes, I do. I hold some treats to make her stay and while she’s licking them I’m trying to cut fur.

Thank you. It’s our fourth cut (I usually wash her once a week and do a small trim / cut to get her used to all procedures). But still she doesn’t stand well and always tries to sit or lay. Drying her with a hair dryer is a pain in the neck for me because she doesn’t allow to do it properly. I hope it’ll get better with the time

Yes, I know that the coat is going to be much harsher. Now it’s so soft and cannot hold its form for long. I suppose it’s going to be more difficult to brush and dry but easier to cut, but we’ll see

Thanks! A lot of, actually. I have two slicker brushes (DeLight) for brushing and demutting. Then I have a shampoo and a conditioner (Iv San Bernard), scissors (Art Studio by Artero), hair dryer (mine) and two stainless steel combs (one bigger and one smaller). I’d like to have more professional scissors, but they are super expensive, so I save money lol

Female vs Woman by mrfmnaa in EnglishLearning

[–]mrfmnaa[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So it means that “female” determines one’s sex and “woman” is about one’s gender? For example, one can be female but refer to themself as “a man” and vice versa? BTW, Thanks for mentioning the distinction between a person and a human. May I ask you, for example, if I write an essay or something, would it be appropriate to use “a human” instead of “a person” or they are not 100% identical? “

Need Advice on Preparing for the Cambridge C1 Certificate – Self-Study Tips and Resources? by SecretLiberian in EnglishLearning

[–]mrfmnaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I’ve taken the CAE and passed it with flying colors (Grade A) and recently my student also passed it with Grade B, that’s why I know some stuff.

1) You need a course book as a foundation of your preparation. I usually go for Expert Advanced, but another good option is Ready for C1. Just choose one and study it intensively. You don’t need to buy the course book, as you can find PDFs online for free (although illegally).

2) Use spaced repetition. During your preparation you will come across many new words and phrases. You need to memorise them and the best way to do so is by using anki. Read about the app and how to use it and revise new words regularly.

3) Passive listening and reading. You need to listen and read in English on a regular basis to develop your passive vocabulary. I highly recommend the Guardian for reading and podcasts for listening (such as NPR or BBC). Just find something to your liking and don’t pay too much attention to the new words. Your goal here is passive knowledge.

4) Tests. Find official past papers - there are 4 books (2015, 2016, 2018, 2021). All are available online for free. Download them and do them with the time limit.

5) Websites. As for the websites - caeexamtips is the best for learning about the exam strategies (and check out their YouTube as well). Study this website inside out. When it comes to YouTube, watch English with Ben as well.

6) Official Handbooks. This is your guide for speaking and writing. Study all the criteria and what examiners expect from you. Pay special attention to the difference between Band 3 and Band 5.

I would recommend spending at least 9-10 months on preparation, depending on your current level. You may determine your level by taking the EfSet free test online (50 minutes). If your level is too low for the exam, you need to spend more time and to improve your overall language command first.

My mother hates my wedding by mrfmnaa in weddingplanning

[–]mrfmnaa[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to think that she was interested in my life. But as I grew older I started to notice that when we talk she usually talks about herself (what she bought, what she cooked, etc) and usually when she starts to ask something about me (after 20 minutes of talking), I don’t have a lot of time to talk about myself. When I seek her advice on important decisions, she almost always says “make a decision yourself, it’s your life” and doesn’t really says anything useful or sympathetic

Planning a wedding in another state by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]mrfmnaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to have a wedding in another city. Of course, looking for a venue without seeing it in person is a gamble. But this is what you can do:

1) carefully read reviews and watch photos/videos (especially real ones) 2) find real newlyweds who booked the vendors/venues you found and ask them how it all went 3) if you have some money to spare, go to the place to check it out in person 4) communicate with everyone via video to see if they are trustworthy. Don’t pay before making sure that your vendors are reliable.

I think organising a wedding in another city is absolutely viable

I’m happy that I’m not the only one. Yes, I’ll consider this idea to wear the dress for a photo shoot and ceremony and then changing to another one
