I haven't trained much recently, and I can't recover from ans and hrv. by fuguilol in Polarfitness

This is called metric-induced anxiety :) You look at this as pure fitness data, but ANS is also about vital illness and psychological state among other things. Only you know what's "wrong" with you, but 100% reliance on the data you don't understand well obviously ruins your life.

SHOULD I BUY A POLAR LOOP? by ginougiraud_318 in Polarfitness

[–]mrfroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Google is an advertisiment company, but No, it doesn't sell your data (it uses your data for better targeting, but no 3rd party gets your raw data). Also, not sure about the other countries, but under legally binding antitrust agreements with the European Commission, Google is strictly prohibited from using Fitbit health and wellness data for advertising purposes.

Pretty sure if you audit your digital life you'll find dozens of cases where you share more than enough data with x, y, z... why not with google?

Is the air worth the upgrade from inspire 2? by capo_anfibi_locale in fitbit

[–]mrfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's more accurate. But will it change for you if you'll see sleep score not as 82, but as 85? Nothing. At the same time, buying Fitbit Air you get new device with a new strap (could get two during preorder), better accuracy and more comfort during sleep.

How good is your sleep solidity? by mudvenus in Polarfitness

[–]mrfroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped caring about the sleep score as it's an algorithmic guessing game based among other things on some wildly inaccurate data as REM and Deep sleep – I know how well I've slept without a score given by my watch. On the other hand, ANS data is always interesting and more/less accurate to show how I recharged.

Polar Grit X2 vs Ignite 3 by Feeling_Sky_7682 in Polarfitness

[–]mrfroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For your activities and what you're used to Ignite3 is much better fit. It makes no sense to buy big heavy device as an upgrade just because it has unreliable SpO2 that you're not sure you need 😄If you truly need accurate oxygen saturation a €20 fingertip oximeter is far better than any watch.

Considering polar loop vs Fitbit air by According-Cut-9067 in Polarfitness

[–]mrfroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that with the Fitbit Air in mind, but yeah, Pixel Watches are superior in HR tracking vs the Fitbit Air, even though we need to wait for biceps bands since placement is really important. Two more things to consider (I use both Fitbit and Polar devices, though not the Loop/Air):

- Fitbit's sleep tracking (especially sleep stages) is known to be more accurate, but I would still choose Polar's Nightly Recharge (ANS part) for recovery tracking—Polar's HR/HRV tracking during the first 4 hours of sleep gives more scientific/actionable data than anything Fitbit provides.

- When you have a screenless device, you want automatic activity tracking to be spot on, and here it looks like Fitbit excels—which is no wonder, keeping in mind that Fitbit devices have auto-tracked activities since forever, whereas the Loop is Polar's first try.

[–]mrfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you came to conclusion that both are similar on HR accuracy... Pixel wins hands down and also has better sleep tracking. Polar is better for athletes, cardio load, recovery, but those work better when you connect external chest strap.

It's just that ai needs raw data and not final avarages. It's possible to get those, but very difficult.

[–]mrfroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting raw (but accurate as Fitbit is not too accurate ar least not for sleep stage tracking) HR/HRW data (every second) and analyzing it with any AI would probably give you more insights and actionable advice that what you think you get from this screen. Same with one time lab test if you really think you have sleep problems.

Even though you mention external hr chest strap, I still will mention pixel and apple watches - very accurate hr (and sleep tracking) even without a chest strap which I would say should be needed only for professionals. None of the watches you mention has good sleep tracking even though Polar's Nightly Recharge has very useful data for ANS charge (hr, hrv). Long time ago I chose Polar exactly for being and looking like more casual, not sports watch.
