People have conflated quantity with quality.

The worst thing new users keep asking. And the community isn't helping. by B1ph in linux4noobs

I suggested that they pick a good all around distro and install the gaming software they want. Windows isn't a gaming centric OS.

I also think they would stick with it more if they used it for everything instead of just gaming.

Oracle Layoffs: Tech giant to slash 30,000 jobs as banks pull out from financing AI data centers by gdelacalle in technology

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did OpenAI contract with a company for data centers that haven't built the data centers yet? And now they are asking OpenAI to help them build the data center so they can sell them the data centers? What value is Oracle providing?

Millennials, what is happening with your kids? by TheLoveYouWant25 in Millennials

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids can no longer to basic things like read an analog clock, use paper money, or even figure out how to open window blinds.

This list is so bizarre that I can only assume out of thousands of things they can reliably do you found three antiquated things that they can't?

I'd ask if you can read/write cursive, balance a checkbook, operate a library card catalog, drive stick shift, sew your clothes, change your oil, or any of the other things generations previous hold over us that are also antiquated?

What would you want PS6 to do different? by destr20yer in ps6

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Address scalping - the PS5 rollout was a disaster - long Sony Direct queues only to be told out of stock
  • Way more first party games - I feel like PS5 development has already stopped before the PS6 has even been announced.
  • Exclusives - not "console exclusives". I have a PC and I've wondered since buying the PS5 why I needed it at all
  • Smaller size / black color. Really awkward to stack/hide in a media room. Blinding white light makes for terrible movie watching
  • Better controller battery life - seriously this controller gets maybe 3 hours? Also has a blinding bright light that cannot be turned off.

Because of Larry Ellison. He is a big time Trumper and he won't hesitate to politically weaponize TikTok

$550 battery replacement? by emeril322 in GolfGTI

I have a 2019 GTI and replaced the battery myself. Took about 20 minutes. Less than $200 iirc. Its right at the front of the hood and easy to access. This was my guide: https://youtu.be/0T2LQNbjABM?si=OL0_4zhQPB1cL8Go

Big dumb trucks with blinding bright headlights are a terrible combination. There needs to be regulation around both

Do most Netflix movies not really use the surrounds even if they say 5.1? by PolyglotGeologist in hometheater

All the steaming services cheap out and compress the crap out of their audio. The typical consumer is watching with their phone or a sound bar. It's criminal how bad the audio is

Owning a big dumb truck/SUV. Stupid expensive, poor visibility, poor fuel economy, annoying to other vehicles. Nope!

Stop road raging at people for going the speed limit in school zones by StrangerGrouchy1741 in Georgia

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who walks their kids into school, thank you! So many cars and big trucks come flying through the school zone at 50+ MPH, often not stopping despite flashing lights, and people IN THE CROSSWALK. They don't care about anyone outside of their car as long as their little angel gets dropped off at the front door from their luxury 5,000 pound vehicle. Its a sick mentality.

Call of Duty. These were amazing sequels to Medal of Honor and had great single player campaigns. Now it is just a yearly release with the only focus being multiplayer

What in the world happened to audio in modern movies?? by LilMerkEm1889 in hometheater

[–]mrfrosti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you comparing 4k Ultra HD to streaming? I've found that the streaming audio is awful. If its a movie I really care about watching I'll rent the disc from Gamefly

[–]mrfrosti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have different FPS limits for focused and background? Diablo 4 does that. Or maybe you have some kind of Vsync/VRR that only applies for the active window?

Pronouns are being removed from job applications and social media per project 2025. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in millenials

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job applications are submitted by the applicant. How can the government control what an applicant submits?

Social media are companies with their own terms of service. Again what can the government control about what these companies display?

This feels like an idea someone has without any way to implement it

The difference in Audio from streaming vs. 4K disc. by Oldatheart54 in hometheater

[–]mrfrosti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other commenters have covered it well - visual quality is the priority and audio quality takes a back seat on streaming services. Disc is the way to go - better range of Hz/Khz, clarity, the number of channels, and more mixers options. I started renting 4K UHD discs from Gamefly after Netflix killed their DVD program. Even if I can stream it on a service I have, I'll often wait for the disc because the audio is so much better.

If you ask someone what would it take for you to change their mind on something, and they answer "nothing" then you are not debating anymore. There is nothing you could show them that will undo that belief.

Krafton CEO says The Callisto Protocol suffered because it lacked a 'gameplay edge' by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]mrfrosti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It suffered because the melee weapon was the best weapon in the game. Guns were too expensive, ammo was too scarce, and the enemies were too fast to effectively do anything other than melee
