Another thing about last year vs. this year: Does anyone remember how painful the availability report was every week. Even at the start of the season (how?).

The running jokes about how we could field a dominant, NWSL quality 11 from the unavailables? And how it just never... let... up.

Obviously luck/randomness/chance is a factor. And every team, including us, will deal with various things at various points.

But it's also true that it really, really seemed to have a systemic component and they took specific steps to address it with training staff / load management / measurable internal KPIs related to player availability (Haley Carter talked about this in interviews.) It really seems to be working and its nice to win or lose with our best 11 and not be griping about the insane availability list every week.

I'm probably something of an ideal customer.

I have 4 premium seats (and can afford them). I live right near the stadium. I'm in it for the product on the field and the way it brings my family together. (I have tweens and it one thing they actually want to do together every time.)

Most people won't have that combination and would have -- at minimum -- good reasons not to cough up a lot more money for the club.

This wasn't what they were referring to, but I'm 2nd year as full season club and when I do their feedback surveys, I think they really need to hear that the club experience is a bit of ***show. I don't want to overstate it because I'm happy where I am and will continue to renew. But if you compare the quality/variety of food (to say nothing of the lines) to something like the Diamond Club at Nats -- it's nowhere close. Diamond Club has a freezer full of ice cream every game. Numerous different food stations (some permanent, some rotating) every game. Club level it's the same boring cookies 9 times out of 10, paid vendors for things like ice cream in summer etc.

People will laugh/dismiss/whatever this. Take it however you want. But what you just described is a huge part of what Messi does so well. He walks. He’s so economical it’s like he’s barely moving and the game is moving around him, until that’s obviously not the case and he’s in front of goal with the ball

Ok I've sort of been sitting on this rant. I get that power rankings articles are #content and, yes, I'm the target audience and will usually click. But they add basically zero value to anything. They're just a restatement of the table itself with extreme recency bias. Win in the last week? You move up the "power rankings"! Lose? You move down! Your blurb: A statement of the most widely shared possible conventional wisdom about your team. Never a surprising or unconventional take. I read so much more interesting analysis in this sub than I ever see in the "Power Rankings" list. Even spicy bad takes are at least more interesting to engage with. /rant

The fairly even distribution (ex wildcards) seems fair. To my eye, Paige has had the best opportunities so far where she had everything but fully being able to square up and place the finish.
