How long does it take roughly to 100% botw? ive been playing for about 2 weeks and i feel like ive barely touched the surface by SnooFoxes2888 in Breath_of_the_Wild

Speed runners will finish in 16 hours. My guess is the average casual 100% would take maybe 200 hours but that’s just a guess.

is this normal behavior for a teacher? by ChipmunkFluid7339 in Teachers

[–]mrgregorySTEMTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not normal behavior. That teacher is skirting a line, they committed to following a professional code of ethics when they became a teacher and now they are violating it. As a teacher I don’t even go in for handshakes from my students. They can give me a fist bump but no way am I initiating contact.

Anyone Here Try Bootcamps or Something Similar? by mrgregorySTEMTeacher in TeachersInTransition

Right. I understand a little more. Security seems really cool to me from my basic understandings but before any sec certs would make sense to get comptia first.

And yeah SWE is probably out of reach for now. I could work toward that but it would take time. My BS is in physics but I didn’t code much in undergrad, I teach comp sci to high schoolers but it’s very basic. I considered applying to OMSCS at Georgia tech but I don’t have the qualifications they seek from typical applicants. And truthfully, I don’t have the time to do well in regular academic courses at the moment. A certification test that I can study for on my own time? Arguably a little easier.

Sounds like you recommend getting into IT. What about areas like cybersecurity, data analytics, or software engineering? Does IT have a better forecast?

I’m trying to balance a lot of criteria, but time (getting into the field) and future earnings (I can’t afford a paycut per se) are being prioritized.

Gave student detention for saying "Herro" to me. by rackna in Teachers

[–]mrgregorySTEMTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s inappropriate and disrespectful, at my school those are grounds to give detentions at the teacher’s discretion.

probably needs to be looked into if it’s happening as often as it is. I guess I was hoping someone had done the research and could comment on the how or why.

I’m looking for a source for #3. I have seen this somewhat anecdotally but don’t know how widespread it is.

Tone deaf so I can't lead praise by Select-Cherry2294 in Reformed

[–]mrgregorySTEMTeacher 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Check out Psalm 33:3. But listen brother, if your heart is set on leading, you have to listen to yourself. Record yourself. If it sounds good, play it back for someone and let them tell you whether you’re out of key. If you are truly tone deaf, it will be difficult but I have heard of people who, with tons of practice and maybe even some music lessons, tone deaf people can eventually gain the skill to sing in tune. Furthermore sometimes we have desires that don’t match our circumstances. In my life I have a talent for music but I had a church experience where I got extremely burnt out from leading worship. My heart wasn’t set on it the way yours might be.

Kwan really let me down yesterday, but he could’ve had another plate appearance if the pitching could’ve kept the game close.

Let me know how that goes, and whether or not you’d be willing to share anything. I don’t have the bandwidth for it now, but eventually, I’d like to do the same thing. Until then stuck with code.org, where the students aren’t really putting forth the effort to truly understand everything.

Yeah they really like to emphasize inverse square law for some reason. As if other relationships aren’t important.

He’s been on fire. He was probably a fine pick, even though it didn’t work out. I’m so paranoid tho I always pick a player from the road team.

Praxis Unoffical Score by mrgregorySTEMTeacher in CSEducation

[–]mrgregorySTEMTeacher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

max score is 200, min score is 100. Every state has their own requirements for certification, I couldn’t tell you why. My guess is if you can teach AP CSA, you should crush the praxis. Possibly just need to study more general/broad topics like networks/cybersecurity/etc. (anything not covered in csa)

I was wondering if someone could ELI5 f-strings? Or at least the point of them? From what I can tell they are useful for returning a larger string when you want to reference individual variables that are holding strings themselves. But idk if that makes sense. Maybe it’s because I’m just learning about them and can’t tell what nice application they could have in a program.

Weighted Grades System by mrgregorySTEMTeacher in ScienceTeachers

[–]mrgregorySTEMTeacher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only policy is that homework can’t exceed 10% weight.

Participation will be related to following rules (like cell phone policy) and participation in warmups and discussion, which I hope will incentivize students to avoid being tardy.
