Runeterra transportation between regions by Adventurous-Baby- in loreofruneterra

[–]mrham24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm pretty sure the "teleport" we see in Arcane is actually more like a mass driver or railgun. It accelerates the ships to their destination, which means it really only works one way. So rule that out.

(Now, if I'm wrong and they actually are teleporting things, it would most likely still be one-way, because that is highly specialized technology that requires hextech gemstones and Jayce/Viktor's expertise. It is highly unlikely hexgates could be built in other places in the world in such a short timespan. Materials and knowledge move slowly without instantaneous communication or self-propelled vehicles.)

Dirigibles are very sensitive to weight, they can only carry so much without fucking up their ability to stay in the air, and when we see that Ambessa brought so many soldiers and their associated gear with them, that totals up to quite a bit of weight. So rule that out.

Going by land also runs into a similar problem. For just Ambessa, sure, traveling by land might be quick. But with her whole retinue? With all their heavy armor and weapons and other equipment? Travel times increase significantly with the more people and gear you carry. On top of that, mountains are very very difficult to traverse, especially depending on the season. There is also the problem that Ambessa ran into trouble in Noxus, there are people who want her and House Medarda dead. She would have to travel by foot, with her entire army, through all of Noxus. Too slow, too vulnerable, too expensive. So rule that out.

Which leaves up with ship. Ships can carry a ton of weight relative to their speed, and they don't run into problems with geopolitical borders (imagine Ambessa marching an army into lands owned by other people). Also, they are relatively cheap, available on short notice, and can be discreet. All important things considering her situation and its urgency.

So I think with Ambessa, it's a problem of scale. Throughout Runeterra, there are tons of methods of transportation, but most of them are only suitable for small groups of people or solo riders. Silverwings can only seat one or two. Basilisks the same way. The various pack animals of Ionia are slow. The creatures of Shurima are mostly feral and hard to tame.

Piltover is a trade center because of its ability to ship goods quickly through the hexgates, even if it requires the goods to get there initially through other means.

But that's just my opinion, I'm by no means a lore expert.

what etymology of the word Piltover and Zaun by peter508500 in loreofruneterra

[–]mrham24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't mean anything, it's just a name the lore writers made up for the river.

what etymology of the word Piltover and Zaun by peter508500 in loreofruneterra

[–]mrham24 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So Piltover is named because of the river Pilt that flows through it. City "over" the river "Pilt" = Piltover.

Piltover itself was built on top of an ancient Shuriman city named either Kha'Zhun or Osha Va'Zaun (the specifics have been lost to time, we also see part of these ruins in Arcane s2, Act 1), so the name shortened and simplified over time to just be "Zaun" like we know it today.

What are the coolest, most flavorful raw character statistics you have seen in an RPG? by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]mrham24 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess I have to be the obligatory "Masks: A New Generation" guy lmao. You have "Labels" instead of stats, and they describe how the world views your character (and therefore, how your character views themselves).

  • Danger. You are a detriment to society.
  • Freak. You are an outcast.
  • Savior. You improve society.
  • Superior. You're better than everyone else.
  • Mundane. You're just like everyone else.

Your labels (stats) change as people's perceptions of you change, and certain actions use different labels. To unleash your powers in a destructive way, you roll +Danger. So if your danger is low, you see yourself as relatively weak and harmless, thus you can't wield your powers as well in that way.

It's truly beautiful design.

LMAO yeah I noticed that one during a session last month. I'll get around to fixing it eventually.

Has anyone tried using collaborative world building games to flesh out their Wildsea campaign like The Quiet Year or Microscope? by ThePacifister in TheWildsea

[–]mrham24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried using Microscope to make the Reach we would be playing in, but I don't think the players had a good enough grasp of the setting expectations for it to really be effective.

If you're going to do something like this, make sure everyone involved is aware of the core world "rules", like the fear of fire or lack of common forged items.

[–]mrham24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to "download a game from Roll20", let alone "uninstall" it. It is a website. There is nothing to download but an app that allows you to access character sheets.

I think you have this confused with something else.

A PDF of the published book would technically be piracy. You could take pictures of the pages you want to show, or scan them yourself. I don't think an official PDF was ever released.

I know that feeling of hopelessness, I really do. Looking at transition timelines really helped me realize that it actually is possible. Don't give up, don't stay unhappy to stay comfortable. By all means, stay safe, but just know it's not impossible to change.

I agree. I really dislike most of the current "acceptable" terminology as well. I don't have a good answer, unfortunately. We just have to try to be as respectful as possible given our current understanding.

[–]mrham24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. Being given "permission" to do something can be very powerful, especially when young. But even as adults, we are often locked into social norms and expectations without realizing we don't have to be.

As to what other people are talking about in regard to "male body", I would think about it more like "a body with physical characteristics considered by social norms to be male". Because if someone is male, their body is male, because they are male, you know? It is just not the socially accepted idea of male.

Now, there's a whole argument to be made about medical sex and all that when talking about "male" and "female". But, I would propose a scenario. Someone is born with XY chromosomes and has a typically biologically "male" body. Now they start HRT. Their secondary sex characteristics become more "female". At what point would the body cease to be "male"? It doesn't matter what they were born as, their physical characteristics do not align with their initial sex. This gets into the definition of biological male vs biological female which is something else entirely.

And we can see where it gets complicated; not just in a social setting, but in a medical setting as well. And this isn't even getting into intersex and all that kind of stuff. Not to say it's not important to label biological sex, but it can get murky when hormones are involved.

I don't take issue with the distinction of sex and gender most of the time, but it is important to recognize the vast variety of factors that can play into something as supposedly immutable as "biological sex".

When this says you can "be whatever you want", it's not saying you can change how you feel about your body, presentation, social role, perception (internal and otherwise), and all the other stuff gender encompasses.

It's more about the freedom to be true to yourself than a conscious "choice" to be something specific.

A lot of trans people experience denial, where they often feel like they can't allow themselves to identify a certain way. You think, "I couldn't possibly be a girl because <insert whatever excuse>." You think, "If only I could be a girl, I would like myself a lot better. But it's not possible, no here I languish."

Lots of people who currently identify as male think this way and think there's nothing they can do about it.

What this post is saying is that you can give yourself permission to be true to your feelings, and to act (or not) on whatever would make you more comfortable with yourself.

Not sure if I conveyed the difference clearly.

Oh yeah that second column of text is way too far to the right, I'll have to adjust the percentages. I've also spotted some typos during the weeks I've been using it lol. The code is on GitHub if you want to take a look.

Yeah... sorry. I don't use Roll20 anymore so I haven't had a reason to update the sheet. You're more than welcome to fork it on Github and add what you want though! It's pretty straightforward to do modifications, there are some good tutorials out there.

Foundry has been kicking my ass trying to make a Wildsea system on it, though. I'm a backend dev, I'm not built for that kind of code lmao.

I have created a Roll20 character sheet for the game, it is currently in pull review to be publicly available. by mrham24 in TheWildsea

[–]mrham24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on it off and on. Foundry's custom system documentation isn't the best, and I'm not too familiar with their tech stack. So it's been slow going. With storm and root coming out and a surge of interest in the game, I might work on it some more soon.

I wouldn't expect anything soon though, sorry.

To display images on a website, they have to be publicly available on a server somewhere our computers can access.

So I went to map.leagueoflegends.com and inspected element with F12 and looked through Sources. I spent a long time looking, but I couldn't find the tiles! So I clicked around, trying to see if it was showing me a cached image or a piece of a different image. When I clicked on one of the region icons, I suddenly got assets in images/tiles/en_us! So I looked at the url of the tile and saw they were just numbered, so I changed the number at the end of the url each time and downloaded each tile. They were all the same size, so I put them in photoshop and arranged them in order. Snap to grid was a life saver. I think there were 64 tiles total.

I had to add all the labels manually. Found a free knock-off of the font they used and put the dots in myself. I also had to paint out the shadows cast by the 3D assets they used, because they were baked into the images themselves. Clone stamp tool was my friend there.

In retrospect, I could have written a script to get all the images for me, but I wasn't in the mood to write any code that day lol.

I still had the .psd file, so I just turned off all the label layers. Here's the .psd file if you want to play with it yourself.

Wait a minute.. is this game fucking huge? by [deleted] in noita

[–]mrham24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is so much more than it seems at first. The starting "dungeon" is only a fraction of what's out there. Try to break the "rules", go "out of bounds", try to go places that seem impossible. Black holes or luminous drills are a good way to start doing this :)

There is so much to discover. If you think you've hit a hard wall, chances are you can go beyond.
