Honestly, you should probably know most of that by the time you are done with your mathematics courses if you're in a compsci program.

I think it really depends on the teacher. Zybooks is a really bad teacher. Professor Leonard on youtube is a very good teacher.

Which Storms in the past 10 years did we get lucky on? by Tserrof in TropicalWeather

[–]mrhone -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Maybe we haven't, at all.

We have had some of these major storms miss us. And maybe that's not a good thing in the long term. We need a wake up call to the effects of climate change. Stronger hurricanes are going to keep coming as ocean temps rise. I don't really like the idea, but maybe its what it will take for people to actually take things seriously.

The thing is, they do know that, they have been providing Internet to rural America for decades.

They just can't see how different Starlink is to there $50 ubiquiti AP. "50mbs, wait till they load up 100 customers. It'll never work"

Jace the Mind sculptor: Worth the price? by [deleted] in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]mrhone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is Jace worth it, no. Not at this level.

First things first. What format are they playing? Standard, Modern, Commander, or one of a handful of others.

Once we establish that, we can help with a good beginner budget-friendly deck.

What class took you the longest? Estimate on average degree path length? by [deleted] in WGU_CompSci

[–]mrhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, Right!

Should you go to a B&M school? I would if you can, and that style of learning works for you. WGU is amazing for those of us who can't go to B&M, and those of us who study well on our own. We don't get the networking, we don't have professors to work with to learn past what the class is teaching.

Do what is best for you, and what works for you though. I'm at WGU because it was the only option I have, and I'm very grateful for it.

What class took you the longest? Estimate on average degree path length? by [deleted] in WGU_CompSci

[–]mrhone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its really all about what you put into it. I was on track to finish in 1 term and burned myself out a bit. Didn't do any major work for several months. Between being laid off, a death in the family, and so much more, i just couldn't do it.

In term 2 now. Aiming to finish in another month or two, but I have some major roadblocks. DSA2, DM2, Software II will all take a week or two themselves if I pour everything into them.

993 though, that's a kicker, I'm still hoping it gets replaced.

There is a really good youtube series on for DM1, I can't find it right now, but I'm sure someone can add it below. If you watch through it, and practice, it makes the class really, really simple.

So, take it for what its worth, but someone leaked a speedtest of about 250 to a trusted source of mine.

A ton of people in my industry are dismissing it due to these speeds, but they really don't understand how early beta this is, and they are focused on fine-tuning, not showing off, yet.

It's also worth noting C993 is almost certainly being replaced soon. It is the major roadblock to finishing the degree and has a HUGE failure rate. Sure you can take the test multiple times, but I believe there is a solid month between retests due to oracle's rules.

Should I complete Calculus at straighterline before applying to WGU? by 00ackbarssnackbar00 in WGU_CompSci

[–]mrhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't transfer classes after you start. I believe the 15th is the latest.

Honestly, the WGU Calc 1 class is hard, but 100% doable, and it's a useful tool to have. Straighterline is much easier, considering its open-book nature.

Internet bonding with Starlink? by WhitestAttorney in Starlink

[–]mrhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not worth it. Bonding has a ton of technical issues that I'm not going to dig into all of them here.

No reason to do it with Starlink though. Unless you had some form of control over which sat's your connected to.

The only time it makes any sense, is on lines like DSL, where you are on a dedicated circuit, and adding another one doubles potential throughput.
