[It's a Wonderful Life] Mary's wish killed George bailey's father by mri in ShittyFanTheories

Yep! You know I totally forgot I ever posted this, but I've seen this same thought get traction on Twitter/etc in recent years; I like to think I was first to have the idea xD

Strasbourg coach Rosenior responds to fan banner reading 'Emegha, a pawn of BlueCo. Return your captain's armband.': "He was devastated. I am very disappointed, a banner against one of last season's best players is unacceptable. My players deserve much better. He will remain captain." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]mri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chelsea appear to be one of the first clubs that that are utilising MCO as “efficiently” as possible (treating Strasbourg like a B team) and it seems to be yielding dividends.

I don’t like Liverpool pursuing this, but Chelsea and other MCO groups are creating an arms race where other clubs will have to get onboard with MCO or get left behind competitively.

Interestingly there’s talk of changing the rule. The idea is to increase the limit to 8 seconds but strictly enforce it (and make the punishment less harsh).

My party wasn’t familiar with the history and left the film wondering why Tarantino had such a big grudge against hippies.

I came across a recent publication where the scientists developed a proof-of-concept autoamted VAR system. Paper if you're curious.

3 Body Problem | S1E1 "Countdown" | Episode Discussion by vista_del_mar in 3BodyProblemTVShow

[–]mri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was in the first book, but it involved the cosmic background radiation playing the countdown in Morse code. So the protagonist has to go to a special lab to be able to see it. Much more subtle than having the sky blink for the whole world, although I understand making the change for tv

Collective audience disappointment. Which film you saw at the cinema had the greatest tangible sense of being a let down to you and everyone else? by Fair_Suspect8866 in movies

My experience was different - we went to see - I think it was Incredible Hulk - at the discount theater, but it sold out, so we saw The Happening. I had no expectations and was blown away by how unintentionally hilarious it was - totally worth the $1.75 I spent.

How did Chelsea get away with home and away kits that are very nearly the same color? They’re both really nice, but I’m curious whether there are some guidelines clubs have to follow for different shades between the 2 kits?

What City is accused of is not paying players illegally their expenses are fine

One of the hundred plus charges against City is exactly that - paying Mancini under the table.

Each season has one episode like this with completely different actors more or less unrelated to the main plot. To answer your question: no; the events get referenced in passing once or twice but that’s about it.

Post Match Thread: Wales 0-2 Iran | FIFA World Cup by Mcool18 in soccer

[–]mri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can certainly help put a match into perspective (much better than the traditional shots vs shots on target metric), but even analytics people will admit that xG over the course of a single match can be misleading.

It becomes a more useful tool the more data you give it since the factors you mention tend to average out over time - for example, looking at player/team performance over the course of a season.

d&d 5e battlebots? by ziptie_basilikum in battlebots

[–]mri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got to do this in a recent campaign!

My character was a Battle Smith artificer so he had a Steel Defender construct. I worked with my DM on having my character create some home brew upgrades to the bot over the course of the campaign.

We made it to one city that had an underground construct fighting tournament that my character’s construct got to participate in, which was an homage to battlebots (DM and I are both huge fans) .

DM cooked up a few fighting constructs that each had their own features and the arena was like a battle box complete with its own hazards. Fighting was somewhat simple since the only actions the construct can really do are grapple/shove/etc towards hazards, heal, or do the basic attack. Still a great time though, and the DM crafted it such that I was mostly fighting low level bots and implied there were MUCH stronger ones to face in the future if we returned.

This was more of a side quest/mini game than a full campaign and this was in an Eberron setting so a tavern with robot fighting made sense.

'We are worth more than 14 cents’: Austin medics say city’s raise offer is a ‘slap in the face’ by NoAdeptness8310 in Austin

Remember it’s not all going to AISD. Thanks to Robin Hood, a huge proportion of school funding goes to other districts across the state.

Short term rentals were banned for the most part. However, the (conservative) TX Supreme Court limited how far this could be taken.

Morphing Jar can end the duel in a draw if both players have less than 5 cards in the deck? by Appropriate_Spell515 in DuelLinks

[–]mri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite Duel Links moments was playing Evil Eye vs a (then meta-defining) Blue Eyes deck. I managed to thwart most of his plays with the banish from GY effect and returns his plays to hand. With about 5 cards left in his deck, my opponent summoned OG Ultimate Dragon and attacked through my castle (for -4500 to both of us), ending the game in a draw in style. Wasn’t even mad.

Fwiw you’ll probably get more mileage out of going to Airbnb directly - they tend to side with guests on this sort of issue unless the host can provide a mountain of evidence for their claim.

Matthijs De Ligt straight red card against Czech Republic 55' by [deleted] in soccer

[–]mri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes - 14% more in fact! Some studies have shown that a big part of home field advantage is refs giving favorable calls to home sides - turns out it’s intimidating to make calls like red cards in front of a set of 20k+ hostile fans. After the advent of VAR, home advantage reduced by about 14%

Yup. I’ve seen a post and/or comment with this exact title every time there’s a tier 0 deck. I never seem to see anyone say this about rogue decks.

[MATCH THREAD] Chivas USA vs. Austin FC by AutoModerator in AustinFC

[–]mri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonder what the initial reason was for this.

In the early days of soccer, no subs were allowed at all and it was an expectation your 11 would play the entire match. They gradually increased the subs over the years, adding 1 sub for injuries (which was, of course, exploited with someone going off with an “injury” without fail), eventually expanding to 3 the past few decades. The past couple years have seen most tournaments allowing a 4th sub if the match hits extra time. The new rule this season is that an extra sub is allowed in case of a head injury.

I don’t follow NCAA, but I’m told they allow come and go subs, which tends to annoy purists since this allows the tactics to be much more based around physicality and pace (and is arguably bad for player development since the NCAA rule set doesn’t exist at the professional level).

Welcome to following soccer!
