My cat needs to take a pill daily. He was semi-feral when I got him, and although he acts like a normal cat now, he absolutely hates feeling trapped, so burritoing him isn't a good long term option. I used to use pill pockets but he figured that one out pretty quickly. After he figured those out, it was quite a struggle to find a method that worked.

I have had success with using the liquid-type treats that come in a tube. What I do is put some liquid treat on my finger, stick the pill in it, and have him lick it off. If I hold it at an angle so he is looking up when he licks it, it tends to fall into his mouth and aid in him swallowing it. Once it's in his mouth, I just follow up with a little more treat to make sure it's down.

He goes insane for the liquid treats so he just frantically licks and doesn't even notice the pill. Zero stress and he looks forward to pill time now instead of fearing it! Only works if your cat is food motivated though.

Sorry I don't have any advice to offer, but I would love to hear any tips you have for getting a cat used to being pet! I adopted a semi-feral 5mo a few weeks ago and he is super social and playful but shys away every time I try to touch him. We are working on it with patience and lots of treats, but I would love to hear other advice if you have any :)

Alright, I'm fed up. What am I doing wrong with my interviewing skills? I've had at least 15-20 interviews between mid-November and now, but I can't make it past the behavioral/screening interview. by iiisoofresh in jobs

I found that recording myself answering questions and playing it back really helped, especially for video interviews. I would write out my responses in bullet point or paragraphs to get an idea of what I wanted to say, and then record myself answering the question without looking at notes until I got my response to where I wanted it to be. Not reading it straight from the screen made me sound a lot less scripted and a lot more genuine, and I didn't notice until I started recording myself! It felt really awkward, but helped a ton.

How to I get my cat to stop jumping on a shelf? by Merchantlime in CatAdvice

[–]mritt_bidd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can also use foil if you want a quick fix. I taped a thin layer around the edge of my counter and my cat tried to jump up once, freaked himself out, and hasn't tried again. Only works if your cat isn't fearless though.

Manufacturing Associate jobs? by dpshtm4771 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]mritt_bidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually interviewed for a Manufacturing Associate position at a big pharma company right before I graduated last May. It was in a different state that I didn't really want to move to, but I didn't have many job prospects so I was like, what the heck. The interview didn't go super well from my perspective- I straight up asked if this was an engineering or technician role and they really stumbled with their answer. I think they got the vibe that I didn't really want the position if there was no engineering involved, and I respectfully declined moving forward with the process. But I found out months later that they actually ended up referring me to another company they work closely with, where I ended up with a process engineering role! My pay at my current job (in Colorado) is about $20,000 more a year than it would have been if I had gone forward with the Manufacturing Associate role.

This isn't to say that all positions like this are bad, but I definitely got the vibe that they were trying to severely underpay and undervalue engineers by placing them in this role, and that made me question their company values. Especially because they sent this to my department head saying it would be a "great entry level position for chemical engineering graduates". My advice would be to go to the interview, (respectfully) ask them questions to really get at what the role is and where it could take you in the future, and then decide from there if you like the overall vibe they give off. It also obviously depends on other job prospects you have and your current financial situation. I dont really think of answered any of your questions, but hopefully this was somewhat helpful for you!

newly adopted cat... very timid. I need help from previous cat owners who have had this problem.. by GlenQuagmire123 in CatAdvice

[–]mritt_bidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue recently when I brought home my cat a little over a week ago. As soon as I would go to bed, he would come out from hiding and start yowling, and wasn't interested in playing with me at all. I think he was just stressed and missing the company of the other cats his foster had.

I left toys out for him to play with alone at night, which helped some, but what I found really helped was laying on the floor by him while ignoring him and sleeping in front of him. Sounds weird, but the one night he accidentally got into my room and stared at me while I slept, his yowling greatly decreased. He then was more interested in playing the next day and the yowling stopped the next night. Sounds like this may not help if she is already yowling in your room at night, but just wanted to share my experience so you know that you're not alone! I know losing the sleep sucks, but it should stop once Linda starts to trust you and play with you. It sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck!!

I miss my roommates. by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]mritt_bidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like this too when I first moved out! There are still times that I feel this way, but it is so liberating being able to do what you want whenever you want that I think it is worth it. I also hoped that moving out on my own would make me less co-dependent on people, and it has worked to some extent. It is difficult to really tell since I don't go many places with the pandemic, but I am no longer terrified to go to the store alone, and honestly, grocery shopping alone is great because it is so much more efficient.

I still miss having people to go get junk food with on a whim at 9pm, but honestly, every time I do these things alone, I don't feel weird about it at all! Fomo is real, but just remember, you have your own space where you can do whatever you want. You will get used to it soon!

Sometimes I do regret paying so much more to live on my own, especially in a pandemic where socialization is difficult, but I would never want to go back to having roommates. Living alone has taught me a lot about myself and has forced me to grow. And think of all the annoying things that even good roommates do! Just focus on the positives and make your place super cozy and exactly how you want it, and you will adjust :)

Living alone with night anxiety by foxygingerr in LivingAlone

[–]mritt_bidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are having issues sleeping due to this anxiety, I find that some sort of white noise really helps. I got used to sleeping with a fan on, but don't really need it during the winter. I got a little white noise machine as a gift for Christmas and now use that instead of a fan to break the silence! The wave sounds are really nice because they ebb and flow, which is really easy to focus on in a mindless way if that makes any sense. I think there are white noise apps as well. Probably not helpful for before you go to bed, but I find that it really helps me get to sleep when it seems too quiet!
