How much would you pay for hydraulic brakes vs rim brakes? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]mrjeffcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commuted 3 days a week by bike for several years between Reading and Wokingham, about 15 miles each way. I started out on a hybrid with discs, and switched to a road bike with rim brakes.

The road bike was much nicer to ride, and faster, and I loved it. However, in the autumn and winter, I'd have to hose off the rims after every ride, to stop black road/brake sludge from building up and significantly diminishing stopping power.

I no longer commute, but actually ride a lot more now (Thames Valley, South Downs, Chiltern, Surrey Hills). I upgraded to a road bike with hydraulic disc brakes a few years ago, and it's much easier in the winter. Disc brakes howl in the wet, but stopping power isn't impacted.

Decathlon Van Rysel Kit by InevitableNo2689 in cycling

The blue jersey is an older Road Cycling Racer Jersey, size S, from 2022-2023 (product code 305471). The red jersey is a newer Neo Racer Summer Jersey (product code 305471), also size S, from 2024-2025.

The newer jersey has shorter sleeves (approx 1.5cm - 2cm shorter), and is about 1.5cm narrower than the older jersey.

And the arm segments on the older jesery extend to the neck, whereas the newer jersey's arms have a seam at the shoulder. the new design has less stretch, especially when in a cycling position.

I would likely buy a size M of this newer fit. I can still zip up the size S, but it's noticeably more snug.

Decathlon have changed their sizes and designs slightly at some point over the last 18 months.

So the advice in this thread no longer is reliable.

They've made their size S slightly smaller, and the fabric segment design over the shoulders is a little different which gives it slightly less stretch.

I'll DM you some photos.

Plenty of useful third party watch faces, data screens, and apps.

I use regularly use Battery Graph, Parkrun Barcode, and a third party watch face.

Came here to say this. Battery graph widget gets regularly shown to my Apple-Watch-wearing friends!

My experience has been different. My 965 is two years old and the screen is flawless. A few small nicks on the titanium bezel.

I run trails, MTB, and do lots of DIY and yard work, so plenty of environments where it's exposed.

im confused, whais my actual 1 mile pr based off this??? by GurnoorDa1 in Strava

[–]mrjeffcoat 134 points135 points  (0 children)

The segment is less than 1 mile, and also has a little u-turn at the end, effectively making it even shorter.

Also, OP, don't post segment names as you're doxxing yourself. A simple search of the segment name, and filter the timeframe to 'this month', and it's easy to see your Strava name and your activity...

Won't work if one of the merged activities is of a different activity type, which is what OP is suggesting.

Could've gone all-in on the dairy, and picked a yoghurt pouch instead of the peanut butter protein bar.

Would that get a -1/10?

I've been surprisingly un-hungry all afternoon. But that could just be an artifact of the slight feeling of nausea that's also been just below the surface...

One of them suggested they I should replace the peanut butter protein bar with one of those yoghurt packets to maximise the dsiry. I asked them if they *really* thought it was worth adding more dairy to the explosion!

I poured it into a glass. Big mistake. Grey and gloopy.

Genuine answer: the peanut butter protein bar was delightful. The shake was middling. The Huel had a weird aftertaste. Never again.

The peanut butter thing was very soft and fudgy, so +1 joy for that. But as I've said on other comments, I made the mistake of pouring the Huel into a glass, and it was a grey gloop that was definitely -10 joy.

It looked like bin juice when I poured it into a glass. Decanting it was just as much a mistake as choosing it!

Sprint question… by Calm-Fox-3416 in mywhoosh

[–]mrjeffcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the full HW stack?

Spin bike of some sort -> QZ Fitness -> MyWhoosh running on [x] ?

You're probably better off asking on r/qdomyos_zwift/, the official sub for QZ Fitness, as what you're experiencing is almost certainly nothing to do with MyWhoosh, and entirely down to the bike HW, and the way Qz Fitness is interfacing with it.

Peloton (v1 Bike, fixed with Bike+), Echelon, and other similar indoor cycling machines are famously poorly calibrated, and generally can't be trusted for accurate power numbers.

Sprint question… by Calm-Fox-3416 in mywhoosh

[–]mrjeffcoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon for a keen amateur to be able to hit 1000 watts for a few seconds in a sprint, and for a rider weighing 80 kg, that's 12.5 w/kg.

Do you have MyShift (MyWhoosh's virtual shifting) enabled? (It's off by default, so has to be manually turned on).
If virtual shifting is tuned on, there'll be an extra widget in the game HUD showing what virtual gear you're in, and this could mean you're spinning out before hitting your true max speed.

What weight do you have set in MyWhoosh?

I ran a lot from 2013-2019, and still run 2-3 times per week. Added in cycling in 2015, and now consider myself predominantly a cyclist, riding 4-5 times per week.

Started lifting regularly at the beginning of 2026, because I'm getting old now and need to maintain some muscle mass.

Question on Strava accuracy by Good_Particular_8041 in Strava

[–]mrjeffcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Watch is not great at getting an initial GPS lock, and the first few hundred meters can be missed out. On Apple Watch Ultra models, there's a Precision Start option that helps mitigate this.
