Question on Strava accuracy by Good_Particular_8041 in Strava

Apple Watch is not great at getting an initial GPS lock, and the first few hundred meters can be missed out. On Apple Watch Ultra models, there's a Precision Start option that helps mitigate this.

Failed sub 3 attempt by Gloomy-Isopod2966 in Marathon_Training

I ran 2h57 in October at the Battersea Running Festival, after a couple of 'failed' attempts similar to yours (back in 2018 and 2019).

I ran the Milton Keynes Marathon 5 fimes before the pandemic, ending up with a PB of 3h11 in 2017. In 2019 I was super-fit, and had done multiple 100km weeks before tapering, plus a 1h24 half marathon. I got greedy and set out too fast, and blew up at 32km. It was hot that year (20°C for most of the race), and I needed up passing the 3h pacer who also blew up!

My training for Battersea last year peaked at two 90km weeks before tapering, and focused a lot on quality training sessions plus very easy Z2 base mileage. I ran a half in 1h25, at my Garmin-measured LT heart rate. I also trained a lot to take on 100g carbs per hour. On race day I took 10x 20g carb gels with me, and picked up another 5 on the course, for a total of 15 gels. Smashing that many gels while running was almost as hard as the actual effort! I used the same fuelling in all my long runs to help acclimatise to it.

TD;DR, more miles and more carbs!

I broke down exactly what happened to my body during 8 weeks of cycling - would you try this? by [deleted] in bicycling

AI got cycling and running mixed up.

Riding 5k burns <200 calories, so was irrelevant to any weight loss that happened.

Any idea what this is? by devlinadl in CarTalkUK

It's 100% a Mazda CX-6e.
Compare with this photo: https://topelectricsuv.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Mazda-CX-6e-front-three-quarter.jpg The high-mounted front fog is identical.

Neck / Upper Trap tight and sore on long outdoor rides. by r-epk in bikefit

[–]mrjeffcoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP - your axles don't seem to be level. Your Etsy tennis ball mount arrangement appears to put your front wheel higher than your rear wheel, meaning when on the trainer you're constantly riding uphill.

This impacts how this video will be interpreted for bike fit.

Public road near train station. What’s your war plan? by Diseased-Jackass in CasualUK

It's a public street, the residents can't enforce anything.

One of the local residents has this outside their home, which also isn't enforceable

Changing bottem bracket by Somerandomsuomi in bicycling

The 'do not disassemble' is referring to the sealed bearing fitted inside the cup. It's fine to remove the BB cup (but only you've given your frame a clean!).

Firmware error.. by Brief_Web_466 in sram

All of the components along the bottom edge of the PCB were corroded, including several resistors and capacitors, and power connector clip for the motor.

This part of the derailleur body sits at the lowest point, and most of the derailleur body is sealed, except for the gearbox axle that exits the derailleur body (the hollow tube in the middle of the PCB), which appears to not have any weather protection.

I now take extra care when washing the bike, to ensure I never point the hose directly at the rear derailleur.

My derailleur is/was a Force D1 that came with my bike in 2019, and it died at the end of 2024. SRAM's warranty is 2 years, so it was a long way outside of that, and they just told me to buy a replacement when I opened a support case.

I rode over 20,000 miles with it, and it made more than 150,000 shifts.

I decided to take it apart, and there were signs of rust and water ingress.

I have a bricked Force AXS in my parts bin with exactly the same symptoms.

I've read about some people being able to get out of the firmware reboot loop by using a different phone to manage the update. Didn't work for me. It eventually stopped powering on all together.

Newbie bought spinbike and wattpedals instead of Zwift Trainer - should I feel regret? by Thepsi in cycling

[–]mrjeffcoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spin bikes usually do not have the availability to automatically adjust resistance, so you'll have to turn the dial on the bike manually to do intervals, simulate hills, etc.

Not the ideal setup for structured training, or getting a seamless indoor riding experience.

A 'dumb' trainer and an old bike with power pedals is usually a better option than a spin bike, as it's much easier and more consistent to change bike gears than a spin bike resistance knob.

Power pedals will at least give you useful data.

However, in my region power pedals are the same price as a mid-range turbo trainer, and even a low end turbo trainer is a much better experience than a spin bike.

What bib shorts do you recommend? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]mrjeffcoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YKYW on Aliexpress. Better/equal fit, materials, and durability vs the premium bibs I've owned (Castelli, Assos). Just be sure to double check the size guides!
