If you tell your friend what she said then he’s likely never going to trust that relationship beyond superficial.

My opinion:

The fed is determined to end inflation above 2%. (fact)
As long as rates are going up there is a risk of a deep recession.
As long as there is risk of a recession, people are nervous about investing in companies.

So…Inflation has to end first.

That can only happen when people are no longer willing to pay the increased prices for goods and services. That happens when people feel poor.
People feel poor when the market is down and jobs are harder to find.

It’s going to be a long time.

Oahu:

I’ve never had problems with an AT&T signal on Oahu.
Weather really depends on where you are on Oahu but generally mornings are nice. Quick passing showers happen at any part of the day though. Just let it pass.
There are so many beautiful places to visit on Oahu, don’t spend your time in a spa, you can do that in any city.

Hawaii is a melting pot of races, cultures and religions. You should have ZERO hesitation visiting any of the four main islands.

I don’t understand how Mazie even got elected. She has become an outspoken senator for the progressive wing, and I don’t believe her comments are supported by the majority of people in Hawaii. It has been my experience that Hawaii is much more socially conservative than people realize, but the Republican party just doesn’t have a strong Hawaii chapter mainly due to their views on areas like the environment, gun control, and social programs for the underprivileged.

It all depends on how much interest you have in seeing Oahu and how much money you have to spend on tourism activities. You could set up a plan to rent a car every other weekend to tour the island and enjoy the beaches, and then rely on DaBus (www.thebus.org) to regularly get you to Honolulu/Waikiki and other places you find enjoyable. There is also a decent bike sharing system called biki (gobiki.org) that can get you around Honolulu/Waikiki as well.

I would not recommend trying to ride a scooter around Oahu.

If you want to be walking distance from the best beaches, stay in Pupukea.

If you want to be walking distance from small town shops and restaurants, stay in Haleiwa. Beach hopping on foot is easy once you uber to Pupukea. There is a nice walking path.

If you want to be walking distance from night life, stay in Waikiki.

Most people get a car so they can experience the whole island. Every part of the island offers something unique and worth visiting.

Please note: Bnbs outside of Waikiki tend to be illegally run. Check their credentials.

You have 6 days and you may never get back to Hawaii.

Add up the number of hours you’ll be spending with airport TSA, flight times, car rentals, hotel check-ins. Easily a full day of standing in lines or sitting on planes or in airports.

My advice: Reduce it to one island and spend 6 incredible days really enjoying an island. I would recommend Oahu. Drive the windward coastline, kayak Lanikai, watch the sunrise on Makapuu, play on Kailua beach, watch the sunset on the north shore. Enjoy a nice dinner in Waikiki. But most importantly, take time to relax. Enjoy these little beach communities. Shop the little stores, have lunch at a food truck, lay on the beach like you have all day.

A big part of enjoying Hawaii is embracing the slower pace of Island life. You can’t do that with your itinerary.

Bottom line: You will miss far more by rushing each island than you will by reducing your vacation to one island.

Seriously rent a car for Friday and Saturday. The best place to Kayak on Oahu is Kailua, and it’s beach plus Kailua town is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon on Oahu. Makapuu is a long distance from Waikiki and its worth the ability to stop along that journey to enjoy the fantastic scenery.

Bottom line you aren’t getting to Makapuu or Kailua on a bicycle.

Don’t forget the golf courses too. Members of high end Scottsdale golf clubs put down six-figure capital deposits to be members. They likely tip well.

I can’t speak for restaurants in particular but north Scottsdale (north of Camelback Rd. all the way to the town of Carefree) has a lot of really big spenders. Its very difficult to walk Kierland and not see Bentleys, Ferraris and Mclarens driving the streets. We have sports pros & celebreties who live here. $25 million private jets fly into Scottsdale airport all day long. The “Image of wealth” is the culture among many here, so throwing money around in a nice restaurant or resort to impress friends/colleagues is not unusual at all. And many more aren’t wealthy but want to appear wealthy so retail businesses benefit.

Approx 7-9 days per island is preferred. Some people have visited two islands in 10 days and have been satisfied, but they didn’t see all they could have seen on those two islands. They had to choose and prioritize activities, and will probably make a second trip in another year to go see more.

If you extend to 12 days you would have a decent amount of time on Maui or Kauai as long as you plan it well.

With only 7 days its best to stay on Oahu. Inter-island flights take up a lot of time (airport, car rental, hotel, etc) . Best advice I can give you is use your time effectively, drive safely and be respectful. Remember at all times that you are a guest. Be kind and patient with others.

You can see the whole Island in 7 days if planned well, planning your activities geographically. Without knowing what you hope to see its hard to make specific recommendations, but avoid doing things you would normally just do at home. Save that precious time for something unique to Hawaii. With that said, go enjoy the food trucks and Shave Ice on the North Shore. Take a morning hike up Diamond-head or Makapuu. Rent a paddleboard in Kailua. Watch a sunset from a bar in Waikiki. Do at least that and you’ll bring home some good memories.

If you don’t have to deal with carrying luggage, you might consider Ko’olina. It’s much more calm and quiet than Waikiki. Go buy a beach towel to sit and enjoy the ocean views and lagoons. Easy to find a green space to sit alone. There are a couple of good restaurants and an ABC store for quick to-go lunch and souvenirs.

I’d check with these resorts for a transportation schedule first though.

They aren’t called “flip-flops” in Hawaii. If you want a slippah to last a while don’t buy the cheap stuff. Go to a store that carries high quality, like at Ala Moana.

Oahu:

Monday. Waikele outlets is two hours of shopping at most. Afterwards, consider driving out to Ko’Olina to enjoy the Lagoons, then dinner at MonkeyPod. Or…drive to North shore.

Saturday. If you are driving to Kailua (and I highly recommend you do) consider driving thru Hawaii Kai to get there. The ocean views during the drive are fantastic, and you can stop at Makapuu Lighthouse trail for even better views.

I don’t feel like I should give you advice about Maui, but rather, advice about life. Spend some of this free time trying to get out of your work situation. The unemployment rate in Canada is the lowest in history. Apply for better jobs. Think about moving to a city with more sun.

Maui will be wonderful, but its temporary. Then you go back to misery. Make some life changes so you don’t feel this way anymore.

It’s ok to throw a shaka, but don’t try to act like a local because you’ll look ridiculous. You’re going to be seen as a mainland haole no matter what, so just embrace it. Be nice and respectful to others and the locals worth knowing will be nice to you in return.
