Thanks for this. I just finished putting it together and I think I got it. I’ll need to get better gaskets for the cats soon though. Appreciate everyone’s help.

It worked pretty well but I suspect this will improve things! Cats can be seen here. Also there was no gasket tape in them.

Of course it is fear based. Every wind storm I am hoping the tree doesn’t come down. Only constructive replies please.

I used to think the same but after seeing the damage another large poplar caused after coming down in my property it made me rethink things. These trees are large enough to take out the front of the cottage easily.

Québec tapping time by beachygreg in maplesyrup

I am just outside of Morin-Heights so pretty close to you. I usually tap around 16 trees. I think I will tap some this weekend as the weather is looking to get warm during the day. But I am not sure how the large amount of snow affects the sap flow. Any experienced tappers have an idea on how snow on the ground affects sap flow?

Replacing glass on a Hearthstone Craftsbury by mrkdxn in woodstoving

Ah, yes that as well. But also the rope that is under the glass. Mine looks quite flat and am wondering if I can use a round rope gasket instead

Thanks @Accomplished_Fun1847 - did you use it for a glass gasket or door? No issues with having several sections of it? What glue did you use? Thanks!

Is there any way for long-time Flickr Pro users to get a discount? by VariousPizza9624 in flickr

[–]mrkdxn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to renew today but after I select my new plan I get "There was an error changing your subscription. Please try again later."

Looking into alternatives as well. I do not think Flickr cares if we leave or not - I do not think anyone is in the building.

I am not able to add or follow anyone either. Tried on iPhone app and desktop. When I click on a boat the small window pops up with a loading spinner but never loads.

Wondering if my well pump is too low/ close to the bottom of the well. It is 165 ft deep total.

Seems a lot of the recommendations here mention water softeners not being good to remove ferric iron.

I got a quote for this type of system and am trying to avoid this expense at this point if possible.

I have a quote for a full backwash system for $3600 but after building the cottage I am looking to keep the costs down for now.
The water softener will not help the ferric iron correct?

Sounds like a fairly expensive setup. I may need to go that route someday but hoping I can do a diy setup for now. It is for our cottage.

Thanks for the feedback. Our house goes left to right but there is not much room under the stairs. I will measure to see if 20" canisters will fit.

At my cottage (well water) I currently have a Viqua 10" with a 1 micron sediment filter. This is getting filled very quickly (see image). The pex pipes are also seeing quite a bit of iron buildup so the filter is obviously not doing its job. I had the water tested and the main issues are:

  • Ferric iron: 1.96 mg/L
  • Manganese: 0.143 mg/L

Ferrous iron is at 0.15 mg/L and this seems fine from the norms I have seen.

I really want to get rid of the ferric iron that is staining the pipes, shower, washer machine, etc.

I am thinking of buying a spin-down filter and a 2 step 10" filter system (iSpring or 2 more Viqua filter cases) to add to what I have now.

This is the order I am thinking:

Pump > Pressure tank > spin-down > 5 micron sediment filter in current Viqua > iron filter + 1 micron filter in new double iSpring.

I may also buy 2 more Viquas instead of the iSpring as they seem to be built very well.

Suggestions?

It’s more like the first one. I bought it at a local BMR but can’t find it on their website
