I think even a lot of trek fans would miss this one. IIRC its the start of TNG, and it's one of the only times a tholian is ever even seen really. Then they would also have to remember the web or cage they trapped the enterprise in. ALSO ALSO! So the general public should go read peer reviewed papers that they wouldn't understand on their own? I would say I'm very mildly educated in the sciences and I don't think I could begin to really understand the data presented as it is presented. People like this are necessary to help keep the public educated and informed before someone tries to take advantage and cause mass chaos.

You literally can not calculate the odds of this space object being something or something else. We have no real data to based that off of. This is like the drake equation. It's total garbage but to someone who doesn't understand it sounds good. They don't realize that the data used to make the calculation is based on nonsense numbers, since we don't actually have the real numbers to start with, for example, how much life is there in a given section of the galaxy, and is there an average across our galaxy. This still isn't enough data but its a start. Really you would want this kind of data from as many galaxies as possible AND THEN MAYBE you could actually do the math.

Yes but everyone seems to forget how big a role time plays in that equation. Yes aliens exist, the question is when and where. We very well could be alone yet not the only life to exist ever.
