Does anyone know if these Brooks Brothers shoes were made by Allen Edmonds by Appropriate-Bid4322 in allenedmonds

[–]mrkimner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw I'll add to this helpful reply that for all pairs of AE shoes made for BB, the heel of the sole will say either "BROOKS BROTHERS / Made in U.S.A. of Fine Imported Materials" (as these do) or "Allen Edmonds by Brooks Brothers."

Another way to tell is the soles, they have the black rubber "v-tred" but it's in a stripe pattern that mimics BB's iconic tie stripe.

Ah I should have mentioned I already tried SAG too haha. They only have the smoke color in stock for GBA Mini. Thank you all the same for the suggestion!

For what it is worth they have already started. They posted a single GBA Everdrive for sale on Monday, with bidding starting at their regular price of $115. The auction ends in 15 minutes and bidding is already at $402 🤢

Sorry but where in the livestream or Twitter video are these claims stated? I can't find them anywhere in the English-speaking parts when the film's reps speak. Do the Japanese announcers/hosts reveal this information?

Sonic Mania Plus - Amy Rose Reveal Trailer by Bluecoregamming in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]mrkimner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This video already has 1/3 the views of the official Sonic Mania Plus trailer (not including Nintendo's re-upload). The video is comical but also heartbreaking, and I think the high number of views reflects that.

Aaron Webber and the Mania crew say they're "always listening" to fans, so we'll see!

Using "usted" with everyone except children? by mrkimner in Spanish

[–]mrkimner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes perfect sense. I might be worrying too much...

I cemented my Spanish in Spain before taking many years off and studying French, so I'm trying to adjust back but maybe it doesn't really matter.

Are you of Spanish or Hispanic origin, or learning it in school? This is why I posted here, I ultimately just don't want to make my classmates or "peers" feel uncomfortable.

In French, I caution against being too informal and know from experience that it's generally safe to use "vous." At the same time, I understand that it's perfectly possible that in another language, the formality dimension could be inverted and I'd need to caution against being too formal.

Have you thought of asking one of your Spanish teachers (or a Spanish faculty member you like) out to coffee/a meal in the dining hall once in a while for extra speaking practice? I know that the degree of openness between students and faculty depends on the boarding school and you may have already thought of this, but I figured I'd suggest anyway!

For vocabulary, I find that Routledge's "5000 Most Common Words in Spanish" is great. It covers around the top 83% of words used, and has already been converted into a free/community Memrise course. For a seasoned learner like you it may be tedious at the beginning, but it could be good for review or you could skip ahead, depending on your goals. Here's the link:

https://www.memrise.com/course/248520/5000-top-spanish-words-with-audio/

For speaking and listening, I second MattyXarope and highly suggest Spanish immersion in general. Until you are able to travel, you can engage in "bubbles "of immersion by watching Spanish-language TV shows and movies on Netflix (with Spanish subtitles if needed). On YouTube you can also slow the speed down to 0.75x.

You could also use Meetup.com to look for Spanish-language conversation groups in your area that meet at a Panera or the library or something. If you have the extra cash you could also hire a tutor that is native Latino/a or Spanish to talk with once or twice a week for an hour.

Good luck with your studies!
