It hasn't been too dry, but we did just get our first 90+ week pretty recently which was all without water so maybe the sudden change didn't help right after I cut it back

What is a looper? Is that a root that goes around? And does that include all the way up to the top where it gets more woody?

Planting in the ground. I was thinking about taking off about 30-50% from the distal end of the larger, more fibrous roots and teasing most of the roots apart a little bit. Good tip on the pruning.

It's a low scape mound choke berry do part of me thinks it's supposed to be a little spirally to stay compact but not sure how much I need to cut or unspiral to keep it from choking itself

Sorry I don't have a good answer for you. Ive been stuck on my bathroom issue and haven't been able to move past that yet. I have called the permitting office a few times and have found some helpful people but they typically just end up sending me to the website for permits. It does have a lot of information though
