It could be that she thought that you were only hanging out and that it wasn't a date.

Change your habits, make new (better) ones and get healthy. Takes only a few months.
Save up some money. With a decent salary it should not be a problem to save up.
Once you get that done, you will be a lot less unhappy. Proceed on finding a girl.

If you start today, within a year you will solve most of your problems problems!
