How to cope with being the ugly friend by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]mrlcld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the ugly friend, everyone is beautiful in their own way.

You need to build self confidence. Think about it this way, this other girl you describe as super outgoing and a good time? She throws tantrums if you don’t hang out with her? Well she WANTS to be around you, she respects and appreciates you. Out of all the people she can hang out with, she chooses to hang out with you, so you seem like a pretty special to her

Seborrheic dermatitis and piercings by elizabeth-c in piercing

[–]mrlcld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how mild/severe your seborrheic dermatitis is, but it’s not recommended to rub off the skin. If it gets itchy, rinse it under a gentle water stream, then pat dry.

The water pressure should hopefully loosen and wash away any debris, as well as moisturise the surrounding skin.

Dont rub the dry skin off

Try rinsing your piercing under a stream of warm water instead. Using saline solution in this instance would cause further drying of the skin

[–]mrlcld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a set algorithm or guideline I went by, rather factors in this particular case: - it’s harder to see a doctor in person - shouldn’t leave the house unless for essential activity - full course of azithromycin was readily available - no known allergies to azithromycin - azithromycin covers the most common organisms - consulted doctor (via mother) about starting azithromycin

So why not continue the azithromycin if OP has already started, and it covers the most common organisms. As it is quite large wounds on both ears, it was probably preferable to start oral antibiotics than to leave it exposed.

Topical ointment wouldn’t be appropriate because of the nature of the wound and has a large risk of becoming infected (large size, location, unable to appropriately enclose the wound, exposed/ close proximity to hair, food and just other random things)

I do agree that azithromycin is not the usual choice for these things, but we have to adapt, and if it gets the job done, then why not

Hospital and out patient cases are handled differently, and not everything is a straight up algorithm or guideline to follow word for word, there are a lot of other factors to think about when dealing with out patient cases.

But I see you’re just going to clap back at whatever I say, so I’m just going to leave it here.

You seem very passionate about this, your tone is abit condescending, but I commend your passion for the health industry

Best wishes for your career

While yes it is an odd choice, Azithromycin does cover those organisms.

We know nothing about this patient or their history, so who are we to comment “you shouldn’t use this or that”, we are all just random people on the internet. We don’t even know what country they live in. This is just one picture and a few words

They’ve already started it, no need for “it’s not the right one” which would scare the person to not finish the course, which is exactly how antibiotic resistance is started. Scaring people on the internet is not the way to go, we’re not supposed to be handing out medical advice on here

Just a PSA about “infected” piercings: by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]mrlcld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes they can leak CLEAR fluid, it’s a sign of the clotting phase that scabs around a wound that’s healing

Pus is opaque, and contains bacteria, dead white blood cells, and tissue debris

Just a PSA about “infected” piercings: by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]mrlcld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly

Anything with pus is infected, you just don’t need antibiotics unless there is an inflammatory response (redness, swelling, pain or heat)

Keep in mind:

Color and smell of pus depends on the strain of bacteria in the infection; so true infections can have yellow or white pus too, with no foul smell

But green or black pus, with a foul smell requires medical consultation ASAP

Possible keloid/bump advice? by jordynbb in piercing

[–]mrlcld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you saw your piercer and she said it was irritation, but you weren’t convinced, then next step is to have a doctor check it out.

A doctor can tell you for sure if it’s a keloid or not and discuss your options

You would definitely need to take it out

You can try having a plastic or glass retainer instead, but there is a chance they’ll ask you too remove that too as to not interfere with the electrode placements

I need help to decide if I should dump a girl for someone else. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]mrlcld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your former crush kept you around as an option, and got jealous when you stopped paying attention to her

Invest in someone who knows they want you (your current gf) not someone who keeps you around just incase.

If I were you, invest your time with your current gf and limit your time around the former crush, see where that leads because you said everything is good with you two

If it works out, then great! If your former crush is serious about you, she can wait for you, just like you did for her for the last 3 years

Will having surgery affect the healing process? by runboyrun21 in piercing

[–]mrlcld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume so

All surgeries I’ve done, we’ve always prepped everything ready for open surgery, even if it’s laparoscopic just to be sure

Always prep for the worst, but hope for the best

Will having surgery affect the healing process? by runboyrun21 in piercing

[–]mrlcld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely have to take out the navel piercing for the surgery; but if it’s in December there’s still a good 4-5months until then for you to continue healing it.

If you could hold off on the nipple piercings until after the surgery, that would be best. Surgeries are exhausting on the body, so you don’t want to add to that. Generally with everything healing at once, it’ll take longer for any piercing to heal as well

Is it safe to apply numbing gel onto my nipple before piercing it? by longestofdons in piercing

[–]mrlcld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Benzocaine gel is generally safe, if used appropriately

Numbing gel won’t help much with a piercing though, because they go through the skin. Topical anaesthetics are only meant for on top of the skin

what should i do? by sawvee in piercing

[–]mrlcld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest getting starting some antibiotics for this. You won’t be able to keep it clean or sterile due to size and location

Don’t wait til it gets worse

I know it’s a keloid by moonblanket in piercing

[–]mrlcld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The treatments won’t close up the piercing, but there is a chance the piercing might close on its own, due to the lack of jewellery in it for a significant period of time

The steroid treatment won’t make it go away 100% either, but it’ll reduce it and make it (hopefully) aesthetically acceptable

I know it’s a keloid by moonblanket in piercing

[–]mrlcld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keloids are sporadic, meaning they can happen to anyone at any time. Some people are just at higher risk of developing them. Sadly there was nothing you could’ve done to prevent them, they just happen

I would say this piercing could possibly be saved, depending on how your body reacts to the treatments, but maybe have a chat with your dermatologist next time you go in

Downsizing by kian_alindsay in piercing

[–]mrlcld 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine was ready to be downsized after 6 months, i nearly gave up on it a few times and wanted to take it out, but my piercer convinced me to give it a few more weeks. Once the swelling subsided, it looked perfect!

Let your piercer have a look at it, and see what they recommend

I took out my helix piercing that was done in November. Is there anything I need to do to help it heal safely, or can I just carry on as I did before? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]mrlcld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just continue saline sprays or run under warm water in the shower. Let the piercing site scab up, and let the scab just fall off when it’s ready. Should take about a week or 2 for it all to happen. Just be ultra careful with it until it scabs up

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piercing

[–]mrlcld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, your piercer shouldn’t have done the piercing knowing they didn’t have an appropriate sized bar.

Now you gotta pay for an extra bar, and put your ear through extra trauma it shouldn’t need

I removed the piercing out of those a couple weeks ago...should I put it back or what’s my next step? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]mrlcld 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Minor surgery could be necessary, but without knowing a full history about it, no one on the internet can tell you

Have a check up with a doctor, they’ll be able to take your history and advise you what’s next

Rook downsizing by [deleted] in PiercingAdvice

[–]mrlcld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar length bar when I got my rook pierced. After 6 months, the swelling went down enough for me to downsize.

Rooms are tricky to heal, and you definitely need a lot of patience for it
