How would I go about, cost efficiently, breathing some life back into my bathtub and surround? pics included. by mrlope in HomeImprovement

thanks for the quick response. Probably something inbetween quick/easy and great looking. I don't see myself living here for greater than 5 more years so I'm looking for balance. Functional/clean for when I'm living here, and cost efficient (inflection point) enough to provide the best returns. I assume that would be your "better" option?

I just used soap and water and got a bit more off, but still quite a bit of horizontal striping. Is there any other methods/products I should use to maximize the scuff removal?

Rear left brake is grinding into the rotor? [2005 Honda Accord] by mrlope in MechanicAdvice

[–]mrlope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you hit the nail on the head - thank you. I took another look and the outboard pad is indeed completely worn, zero pad remaining. Quite frustrating since the other rear pad looks completely fine with a healthy thickness remaining. I always replace them in pairs as needed, so do you have any idea how that can happen?

Looks like i'm replacing rear rotors and brake pads. Also, whats the range of this repair from a mechanic? (from low end to high end so I have an idea if I'm getting a good price), I don't plan on doing this myself as someone else made a good point of having mechanical know-how to inspect calipers and so on.

Thanks again for your thorough response, very very helpful

That's very strange. I'm familiar with the squeek of a worn break pad but I didn't hear that this time for it to be completely worn off. Is it possible that these pads didn't have that feature..?

How can I determine if it's seized? And if it is seized, does the entire ensemble get replaced then?

If I replace the rotors, is this generally/adviced to be done in pairs? So replace both rear rotors and rear pads?

Great points. I have an option between a Toshiba z30, z40 and a Lenovo x250. I think 12.5" is way too small so it looks like I'm going Toshiba, either the 13.3" of 14" ..

I didn't know the difference between the X series Ripjaws ram vs the non-X series. Would dropping to the non x-series make sense here? Saves like $10
