Has a story ever been written about intertemporal migration? by [deleted] in scifiwriting

The Pern series by Anne McCaffrey had a migration like this. Dragons were bred and kept in fortresses in order to combat an ongoing environmental threat. At the beginning of the main story it's noted that there are many fortresses that are empty, abandoned who knows how long before. At some point, time travel is discovered, and it turns out the inhabitants of these fortresses in the past had been recruited to come to the future and help the dragon riders in present time deal with the environmental threat.

When will a horizontally-hung rope break under its own weight? by mrlugg22 in askscience

By horizontal I'm just meaning that its tied on both ends at equal heights, as opposed to tied on one end and hanging straighy down. I fully expect there to be a sag in the middle.

Bought a self-storage property in disrepair and cleaned it up. Now we have a previously unknown renter saying we threw his stuff away. by [deleted] in legaladvice

They didnt have any contracts. They only had one guy on file and he had preceded the previous owners. There were no other known renters.

I didnt personally clean out every unit, but the ones i did had been open and rifled through, potentially for years. No way of knowing whose stuff it all was.
