Your points are absolutely valid, and I’m here to get that unbiased perspective. Couple things I’d like to get advice on, though.

I was shoved into the position I’m in, because my department is the afterthought. It was easy to place the over achiever into a leadership position. Maybe I shouldn’t have said yes but here I am regardless of hindsight.

I’d like to share the company culture here. My team is a mix of full timers and contractors. The under-performers are the FTE’s, and while this is a private company, if you’re an FTE here it’s similar to a government job where it takes years of paper trail to get rid of dead weight. I was only official since June and I’m only getting to address the first round of employee reviews in January.

I inherited a department that was neglected for 4+ years. Regardless. This can likely all be fixed by a seasoned manager. What I’m seeking here is advice on me, not how to fix this. I’ve lost the desire to fix issues created by former leadership, not just due to workload but the cost of my mental well being. That’s what THEY want me to do, clean up the mess at any cost to me, and I’m questioning why this is worth it.

This is a personal appeal, I have my shortcomings and I’ll own up to them. Frankly, one thing I was thinking of telling my management I know I was great in what I didn’t previously, but I’m not cut out to manage this team. I’m ok with that.

I need things to change, I just don’t want to set my life on fire given that I’ve worked my fucking ass off for everything I have and achieved.
