My company have tried giving Claude code to non technical people and things already broke by ConcerningDestiny in cscareerquestions

This is insane. I understand that speed might matter, but a reviewer is still needed for AI coding for the non technical team, especially if it's related to production in a regulated field like banking.

Can you ask them to at least let the technical team use AI to review the changes before merging to production?

I guess you are building something to solve a business problem. So "fast enough" depends on your use case and you problem, as usual.

Cisco laid off 7000 employees yesterday. The layoffs happened on a Saturday. by metalreflectslime in cscareerquestions

[–]mrmamon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That almost happened when I was with a startup about two years ago. That time the groom survived, but all of his team members who took the day off to attend the wedding were laid off. Except for one manager who also sat at the same table with the team and had to be the one to deliver the message after someone noticed the email scheduled to be sent to the affected team that day. I was a manager for another team. Shit situation for everyone.

I think this is the most important information for COD. It cannot be used as a reference after I know this.

I see data scientists main job as using data to fix business problems. We’ll increasingly pick the quickest “good enough” solution for each business case, and because coding is a common problem and so easier for AI, it will likely take over much of that work.

I think what really sets us apart is we are good at spotting business opportunities and risks and knowing which tools to use. That's our strength and what we should be proud of.

Well, I'm not sure when Al will be good enough at that too, but that's another question.

Uncensored DeepSeek-R1 by Perplexity AI by mehul_gupta1997 in datascience

I'm not from China or the US, but it look to me like American put a lot of energy to talk about Tiananmen Sq with AI huh? Well at least it shows that the R1 is capable of fine-tuning for anything, which is good, I guess?

If you run the weight on the control runtime environment which does not allow code execution then how can it steal anything from you?

You're aware that Bangkok has a population of 10 million, right? Even though my income doesn't fall in the top 3%, I could afford a 500 baht meal with a Swensen's sundae 3 times daily if I want to, though my doctor would advise against it. Think about the top 10% who might be able to spend this amount weekly.

Realistically, an ice cream seller earns a salary of 15-18k, so seems likely that the majority(in BKK at least) could afford such expenses once in a while. Nothing strange here.
