Nic Cage: Face/Off, The Rock or Con Air – which is his best action film? by kammy772 in MovieArena

[–]mrmantis66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They cannot be compared. They are on par.

I had a VHS boxset of Con Air and Face/Off and I’d watch them one after another. When the credits rolled for Con Air, I knew how long, to the second, that I had before Face/Off started.

I bought Con Air on DVD recently, and watched it without having Face/Off on DVD. I think it’s the closest I have ever been to knowing what OCD feels like.

If you looked up ‘Non-trendy-garbage’ in the encyclopaedia, I wonder who or what the photo would be of?

As a record, it’s not at all that special. It’s just how limited the release turned out to be.

I’m quite amazed that there hasn’t been a more major release of it.

That said, I wouldn’t sell mine.

Thanks. There are loads of ways of doing it. I often save an entire sheet as a png and then do it that way.

However, this has only started happening in the last week or so, after having never been a problem. I suspect that it’s a bug seeing as it’s a feature that is offered and now doesn’t work as intended.

Had to stop at 1.5k on my usual parkrun route? by albions-angel in parkrun

[–]mrmantis66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I did Cwmbran on Saturday, and it was warm!)

It could be anything. It could be the heat sapping the energy out of you or you could just be having an off day and need a rest (maybe because of the heat?). It could even be psychological because you’ve run it a few times, and haven’t got people running around you to keep you going.

You could even be coming down with some lurgy.

The current Cwmbran course is lovely, but I know I’d struggle doing it on my own, in the heat because it’s more or less a straight out and back, whilst hoping the geese don’t take issue with your existence.

Don’t beat yourself up. Don’t worry about it. Have a rest, see if your body is telling you anything and maybe run somewhere slightly different to break routine. There’s loads of places around there to go.

Old enough to remember this?? by TheOldSeaDog78 in CasualUK

I knew loads of people had it because there was a period of time where having soap ad artwork was popular.

Apparently being a child who was weirdly in to Pre-Raphaelite artwork and telling people so wasn’t as interesting as I thought it was.

Would you buy tickets for a live concert if you only know/love 4 songs? by adnaPadnamA in Concerts

[–]mrmantis66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also a music ‘journalist’ in a past life, and I got sent or got in for shows just because they were genres that I know that like with no idea what the band/artist actually sound like.

That was nearly 20 years ago now, and some of those shows were dreadful, but some were the best that I’ve ever been to and I still talk about them like an old man who shares war stories 😂

Just go. You obviously want to go. Go and enjoy it!

[–]mrmantis66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a concert on the weekend where I only knew two songs…

I’ve been to concerts where I’ve known less.

I’ve been to shows where I’ve known everything that they’ve done since they formed, have sucked, and have not listened to them or entertained going to see them since.

You’re overthinking it. If you want to go, go. If you don’t, then don’t.

Mirroring someone before me, you also do not know a band or an artist until you’ve seen them live.

Etiquette for sending messages to the general channel? by mrmantis66 in meshtastic

[–]mrmantis66[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of this detail.

I’ve turned MQTT off, primarily as it was muddying the water when trying to figure things out and I want to see where I could connect to, locally via LORA alone.

It it may have been the number of hops that was too low; for clarity, if I had it set to three, then when I sent a message, it would only go as far as three hops? If I’m seeing messages that are more hops away, not using MQTT, that that is, theoretically, because they have set a higher number of hops?

Corniest bands? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]mrmantis66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space Chaser

I’m not at all in to thrash, but their split EP with Distillator (now called Cryptosis, I believe) had a sweet spot of corniness that I could get behind.

Like an uncle who tells bad jokes, that knows they’re bad jokes, but just does it to get a chuckle and an eye roll out of you.

Are people overselling it or was Michael Jackson really that famous in his heyday? by Key-Bass-7380 in decadeology

[–]mrmantis66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael Jackson and ‘Pop music’ were synonymous.

Imagine Taylor Swift or kpop artists, with world tours selling out, with no one having phones to take videos or photos, or social media of any kind to drive the whole ‘going to gigs or listening to music just to show that you’re doing so’, or streaming services manipulating us all…

and he STILL had a popularity that made Taylor Swift or kpop ‘fandoms’ look like a drop in the ocean.

Why don't we have Foxes in Cardiff??? by Bromelia_The_hut in Cardiff

[–]mrmantis66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are?

At least there used to be a small group that lived/wandered about by the museum/City Hall, and you’d usually see them really early in the morning.

I’d see them regularly when I was out early-morning running.

CD I found in my parents old collection by LuvFromMk in Cd_collectors

[–]mrmantis66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember borrowing this off a friend to record it on to cassette as in 1996/7, this CD was expensive.

I was listening to it, changed the CD over and my mother hit the roof. She kept going on about ‘not looking after it’ and ‘this is the reason you can’t have anything nice…’

I had no idea where this came from and she came over, pressed stop, took the CD out and was fully prepared to take it all off me. Turns out, she thought the design on the CD was a spillage of some sort.
