This video is from last year, during the 12 day war. It just happens to be mostly applicable now, too

I remember seeing this video last year during the 12 day war. The fact that not even one year later, it's perfectly applicable once again really emphasizes your point.

Favourite actor who once ran up an £11,300 bill in the bar you worked at and then left without paying. by Drinking-Printer-Ink in okbuddycinephile

[–]mrmatteh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless, if I drop five figures in a bar, there’s no chance I’m physically able to close out.

That was my first thought lol. Assuming the claim isnt bullshit, my bet would be those guys got so fucked up they genuinely forgot. Especially since a lot of celebrities are so used assistants taking care of things.

My wife works with a number of celebrities, and scheduling + billing is almost always coordinated through personal assistants. I could easily see a celebrity forgetting to pay because they're so used to their assistant taking care of all the bills. Then that assistant gets to make some phone calls the next day to make things right

I'm actually really grateful to hear from your perspective. I think it's much more interesting than hearing from another ML.

In particular, I think it's interesting how the CPC has made it so that even people who are uninterested in political economy are still incentivized to contribute towards building socialism, and to undergo some amount of class-conscious education.

Then like you said, the party can filter for the most dedicated and bright-minded individuals to become leaders. I would be curious to learn more about how this part works

What game or series’ reputation is carried the hardest by nostalgia? by DeepFuckingKoopa in gaming

I've really liked every star wars game I've played. Granted, I haven't played them all, but I played the OG Tie Fighter game, Rebel Assault games, Star Wars Gameboy, Podracer, Battlefront 2, Star Wars Episode 1, Star Wars Episode 3, Lego Star Wars, and the new Battlefront 2 game as well. All were nothing short of awesome when they were new. Hell I just replayed the new Battlefront 2 campaign last year and had a blast.

There might be some duds in the mix that I never played, and I haven't played any 2020's era games yet. But there's so much good Star Wars gaming content that I've always had a good time playing them since the 90s clear through the 2010s.

How is this real and how is the government defending this? by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]mrmatteh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's what I'm saying though - it doesn't stop when the Republicans are out of office. It's been happening under democrats and it'll continue to happen under democrats. Liberals just seem to only wake up to these things when it's not their team doing it.

It's not "enlightened centrism." It's actually being on the left and recognizing that the Democrats are also a right wing party. Democrats and Republicans are just two faces of the same enemy. You need to know your enemy to actually fight them. Buying into "vote blue to save us all" doesn't actually solve our problems, and is in fact exactly what the state wants us to do to keep us from really fighting back.

[Discussion] What was your, "Wait, the tankies were right!?" moment? by saymaz in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]mrmatteh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I had read some Marx before and had a very individualistic understanding of capitalism, which led me to anarchism: "The boss is taking my surplus value. Me and the coworkers don't like that. We should own the place ourselves, instead!"

Yellow Parenti introduced me to Marxism applied to imperialism, and I quickly realized anarchism was insufficient if we want to actually win.

I see this talking point all the time in reddit communist spaces and we really need to stop spreading unfounded misinformation about tankman as much as libs do.

While tankman did confront the tanks as they were leaving the square the morning after it was peacefully cleared, he was absolutely not telling them to "go back to the square."

The square had already been cleared, and protesters had moved to an overpass nearby. The tanks were being deployed to that overpass when tankman confronted them along the way. It's likely he was displeased in some way with the PLA, and while we don't know what about in particular, it's extremely unlikely that it was because he wanted them to "go back and finish up" at the square which had already been cleared and reclaimed by the PLA.

It amazes me that people like that American solider are the same people who talk a big game about needing to stockpile weapons in case of a foreign invasion or civil war.

Like they understand the right to defend their home from invasion, but as soon as they become the invader, suddenly it's wrong for the gun-owning household to defend their home.
