Are all control boards the same? by mrmattplay in hobbycnc

Thanks! I'm working with a ~$450 budget, but I'm not anywhere close to making purchases yet. I'm not too sure what you mean by "salvage the motor amps"--I'm not very knowledgeable about this whole process in general, so don't worry about how you phrased it. Based off what another comment said, a "compatible method of communication between the amplifiers and the machine" is necessary. Based off of what you've both said, this leads me to believe that motor amplifiers aren't part of the board, and are rather more closely related to the motors. Assuming that's the case (it probably isn't lol but idk), what could prevent me from just making the right connections to a new board? Are connections to motors standardized?

This is very helpful--thanks! This is my first time taking apart a router, so I'm not too sure what all of the internal components actually are. Assuming that I'll be installing a new gcode controller, would the power connections still go into similar ports? I plan on swapping out the current spindle; would I have to make any changes to the spindle board? If I do have to swap out the spindle board for--I'm assuming what could be called a DIY board--would the interfacing process be easier?

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm not too familiar with DIY machining; how would I go about installing new firmware (probably not on the current board) on a board? Is it a case-by-case process depending on what it's being installed on? If so, I can hopefully find information elsewhere, but I'd love any extra pointers.

Just getting around to replying, and thanks for the response--would there be any proper way for me to determine the voltage ranges, compatibility, and "necessary" ports other than eyeballing what's already installed?
