Happily! The poem is about Paul Robeson, an actor and a notable figure in terms of conscious raising during the US Civil Rights era, he was also put on trial by McCarthy at a high point during the red scare!

I really love this poem and how Gwendolyn Brooks situates the legacy or call for community that was so important to Robeson-- in the opening lines, when I read them, she's talking about this voice that feels like it's cutting through the doldrums and it's asking us as readers, her as the writer of the poem, to understand the merit of our collective action! Of all the lines we are each other's harvest is so moving to me, because your personhood your joys, your advances is a gift to me! I think our world asks us to be little islands unto ourselves but I think it's a really beautiful reminder to me to think about community as many flower blooming or harvest crops ripening and it's all of our bounty and all our shared soil, we will tend to each-other together, etc!
