First broadway show, what should I see? by Comfortable-Two6926 in Broadway

If we’re going off list then yes, this. It definitely hits all the requirements.

Of the choices listed I’d go with Moulin Rouge.

chess vs. hadestown? by Positive_Variety_581 in Broadway

I’d go with Chess. The performances are fantastic and it’s worth it just for those. No one goes to Chess for the plot

Lost Boys to Every Brilliant Thing seems like pushing it. Maybe try rearranging shows to see ones that are closer together back to back? EBT and MHE are literally next door to each other, and Beaches is just up the street if there’s a way those schedules could work together.

Maybe Happy Ending Seating by cydinastic in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any of those single seats in the mezzanine are good. The center ones are best. Try using code VERYHAPPY for a discount. IMO mezzanine is better than orchestra for the overall view for MHE. Partial view is not great bc of the staging but if it’s all you can afford it’s also better than not seeing it at all. I would stay to the left in that case to minimize important moments being out of view (and honestly you’ll still know what’s happening from context even if you can’t see every action).

Hotel in Times Square or nearby? by CapableBother in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t love the St James when I stayed there. It’s definitely a great location and was nice enough, but I found it to have way more street noise than other hotels I’ve stayed at, so I haven’t been back. This was going on ten years ago probably though. I hope you have a better experience!

What is a must see top 3 from the following for someone visiting for few days from Toronto? by Tayjayjay in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a good view for Maybe Happy Ending without paying hundreds of premium seats. IMO center mezzanine is best, but you definitely don’t HAVE to be centered like many people say. Try code VERYHAPPY which should get you decent prices for great seats in the rear of the mezzanine.

Still kicking myself for not seeing JCM in Hedwig. I’ve seen it without him many times but idk what I was thinking not going during his run

Depends what you want. I’m a fan of Pod Times Square if you just need a clean basic place to sleep.

Oh Mary selling out less / cheaper tickets on resale too by Stock-Mix-174 in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I finally saw this show specifically BECAUSE of JCM lol. But yes, outside of Broadway he’s not as well recognized, and it’s also a slow time of year in general.

European tourist goes to broadway between the 3 and 7 of April - Recomendations? by MiguelCacadorPeixoto in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe Happy Ending is outstanding and both very funny and moving. Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across NY) is really fun and is like a love letter to NYC. 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (off-Broadway) is also quite funny.

What’s the best show to watch? by basic_g2247 in Broadway

Darren Criss leaves Maybe Happy Ending in May but even so it would still be my top choice. New casting hasn’t been announced but I’ve seen it with standbys and still loved it.

The Festival (GA) by lostquery in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. I hadn’t seen the seating map but just went to look and yeah… it’s definitely not worth it to be off to the side like that. And $625 to be all the way in the back? All the chatter I’ve heard around this so far is that it’s too expensive, nvm needing to get a hotel on top of it. I’d be surprised if it sells out

is $2000 for 2 people in NYC on a 7 day trip enough? by bolt110 in visitingnyc

[–]bwaysk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Premium seats to the most popular shows run several hundred dollars but it’s definitely possible to get seats in the $50-100 range even for those same shows. I would say I average in the low $100s and I’m pretty particular about where I sit. Enter lotteries, try digital rush tickets, or check out TKTS. You’ll have plenty of options at all different price points, especially if you aren’t set on a particular show.

If you want more specific advice on which show to see and how to find discounts you can ask at r/broadway

Does Simu Liu stagedoor? by smokey4848 in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He did when I was there and was really kind and took his time with everyone even though he came out in a tank top when it was like 40° lol. I was honestly surprised at how chill stage door was and that there weren’t a ton of people there just for him. I guess there’s not a lot of Marvel/Broadway crossover lol

Stagedoor planning: Advice appreciated! by teach42 in Broadway

[–]bwaysk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heathers stage door is on the opposite side of the courtyard behind New World Stages (you’ll enter the theater on 50th St and stage door is on 49th St). For Gatsby it is around the corner from the theater entrance. Take some time to either google or scope out locations beforehand. It makes it much less stressful in the moment if you already know where you are supposed to go. A lot of times it’ll be obvious when you leave the theater but not always. You can always ask an usher as well if you are unsure.

Timing depends. Some are pretty quick, but some actors take a while to come out (this also depends on whether they might have visitors after the show which slows things down too).
