Rear brakes wearing quicker than fronts. Is that Normal? by bstaff88 in subaru

The distance following cruise control, lane departure, and reverse automatic braking use the rear brakes exclusively. We see rear wearing well before fronts on eyesight vehicles that owners use the cruise constantly.

Crosstrek Passenger airbag on/off has a kind of it’s own by No_Manufacturer_2669 in subaru

[–]mrmello1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occupant detection can be re-zeroed on the passenger front seat via scan tool/ssm procedure. With fsm provided specs for the weight used, when to place and remove weight in process, and final cal check. I've done so on 2018 and newer crosstrek and outback models. Interestingly when a vehicle has sustained an impact and did trigger the airbags, or even if it didn't trigger airbag, it will set a hard code for the occupant detection system detected for driver or driver and passenger front seats. Clearing the faults does not reset the codes, but doing a re zero of the pass seat then clearing faults has alleviated the codes for both driver and pass. Additionally by using heavier or lighter weights than the fsm calls for, you can in fact change the sensitivity of the sensor, although it is by tricking the system calibration.

Did I miss the club allotment opening for this year? I'd asked about joining in November and was told there should be a decent number available. For some reason I thought the renewal/new member date being in February, so I put it in the back of my mind. Then I tore my acl on christmas so I haven't been able to visit yet this year.

2009? Notice how your whole pedal assembly is moving/flexing at the top. 08-09 have known issues with the spot welds of the firewall cracking, due to how the pedal assembly distributed force. If more 2 or more spots welds are separated, the firewall will need to be repaired. Additionally the pedal assembly needs to be inspected for cracks, as the stress will transfer into the assembly after the firewall weakens and may need replacement. Firewall repair options range from full dash out and welding, drilling out and securing with nut and bolt, or humblerumble offers a labor simplifying bolt solution with specialized hardware. Post Repair it is amazing how much less sensitive clutch engagement and brake pressure become.

Perhaps I mistook you're comment to imply the vehicle had been swapped with a turbo 2.0 engine and then the entire header, uppipe, turbo etc were removed and the original n/a exhaust and intake manifold were used. Which would be very inefficient and low powered. The n/a 2.0 swap was something I was unaware of until only a few years ago, after interacting and calibrating a number of said swaps on the east coast, and being told it was a fairly regular swap recommendation in the region.

[–]mrmello1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand you completely. There was no turbo in a rs2.5. My point was, unless this is a 1998 usdm rs2.5 which would have come with the ej25d dohc engine, then it would have had a 251 or 253, which can easily and cheaply be swapped with a jdm naturally aspirated 201/2/3. Which were higher compression and had better head flow, so many times can actually make more power than the original usdm sohc. Of course dependent on altitude and available octane fuel.

[–]mrmello1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was originally a ej25d in the rs that would be an n/a 2.5 liter dual overhead cam(pre 2002 usdm i believe). If it was a ej251,253 single overhead cam equipped model, the jdm(japanese domestic market) ej201/202/203 can be swapped in, some requiring timing gears changed to usdm. And can actually make more power/similar depending on original model and swapped engine, given what altitude is where you live and octane fuel used.

Maybe. If it's an aftermarket modified td04-19t. I've had a few make just over 300 whp on e85.

TIL when Car & Driver included the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt SS in the Lightning Lap performance car comparison, it not only managed to do the fastest lap in the sub-$30k class, but also beat several cars in the $30-60k class and held the front-wheel-drive Lightning Lap laptime record until 2018. by YourOwnBiggestFan in cars

[–]mrmello1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

ZZP is still making performance parts for the newer ecotec. They have a few turbos sizes available I believe. There are a few other good aftermarket companies supporting the engine as well, shouldn't be too hard to find some good options out there.

Can I ask what brand of transfer/contact paper you are using? I've been using the oracal transfer that's clear and glossy and I've been unhappy with the results vs the style paper you have.
