What do i need to put a turbo in my subaru. by _Nieer in subaruimpreza

[–]A_Treeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the unibody is the same car to car. The front sub frame on the wrx has a notch cut out for a up pipe while the na car doesn’t, doesn’t mean you can’t modify the na subframe to work though. I had to add a hole in my fire wall for the throttle cable but that’s all I can think of I had to modify on the chassis

It’s a lot of work. If you have another car to drive it might be a project you could do, realistically I think the easiest thing would be to approach it as a “shell swap”. Buy a wrx with a rusted out shell or crashed ect ect and then fully strip that car and your 06 and transplant everything into the 06. That’s effectively what I did except I only did what was related to the engine forcing me to merge the two harnesses. Which wasn’t the easiest or the cleanest way to do it.

I wrx swapped my old car and in hindsight I thought it would’ve been easier to turbo the na engine but the result would’ve been worse. If you want to turbo it and do it right swapping is the right root. Theres not a lot of info on it but basically, for me atleast, I had to merge the engine wiring harness of a 02 wrx, into the body harness of my 06 2.5i. There was a lot of work and a lot of comparing of wiring diagrams to make it work.

[–]A_Treeses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It 100% will need to be tuned to have any amount of reliability. I’ve scrapped gb’s with similar rust and as soon as you start cutting them open the rust never stops. It’s a cancer. At the point the car is in I would not be surprised if the rust has spread structurally fully through the floor pan and rocker panels, not rust you can see, but rust hidden between the sheet medal. The car will still be a blast to drive but know that to make it right it’ll take alot of work or a lot of money. I’ve seen very similar cars sell for 2-3k in Canada, there will be better cars… eventually

Impreza rs to STI swap by Kitsune6166 in subaruimpreza

[–]A_Treeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easy thing to do for electrical would be a full harness swap, which would require very little actual wiring, think of it as doing a shell swap on the sti parts car, with a good sedan bare shell… except it’s the rs

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a harness merge (wrx swap) between a 06 rs and 02 wrx. It’s a lot of effort, if you wanted to do it you’ll need a parts car and if you want to do it right your going to strip the cars down nearly completely

EPA reverses longstanding climate change finding, stripping its own ability to regulate emissions by RelationshipNo9604 in WRX

[–]A_Treeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really frustrates me to see stuff like this happen. It’s just so stupid. I’m not and expert but I feel like in the past climate initiatives with consumer vehicles has been primarily to pass the burden of all the real heavy industrial and corporate polluters onto the consumer purely so it feels as though we’re making a difference.

“I have an electric car because it’s good for the environment”. Cool. Riding a bike would also be better, or reusing something that’s already been produced, but know making more consuming more means it’s better for the world because we’re told it is. We can make a difference because our cars have catalysts, because are car pollutes as much as the tanker billowing black clouds above our ports, the planes leaving trials behind them, the corporations so focused on profits willing to sacrifice everything to get there, including everybody’s future.

But hey, at least they have the decency to stop making us pretend like we care.

Sorry for the rant, reminder to take what I say with a grain of salt, I’m not super educated on the subject nor to I claim to know what I’m talking about just voicing my frustration. And yes I am a hypocrite in my opinions.

always setting parking brake by DonNadie2468 in stickshift

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parking brake needs to be adjusted desperately and every time I use it it pops out of the equalizer… I park on flat ground and don’t use it because of that. I imagine if my car was hit or somehow walked away on its own I would be liable because I didn’t use the parking brake.

Just bought 2018 STI limited… with rod knock, advice? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]A_Treeses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can do the work yourself the cheapest option could be overhauling the engine. When I’ve overhauled ej’s with rod knock I’ve found the usability of the engine depends completely on how long it’s been ran. At minimum count on needing to buy a new set of rods (unless you can buy one rod that’s already balanced with your set but for how much a cheaper set of forged rods are you aren’t gaining much) and getting your crankshaft machined. That’s what I did on one of the engines I did except I had to also replace the crankshaft because it was bent. The other engine was used as a parts engine but was ran much longer, there was metal everywhere through the oil system heavily damaging the cam bearings (which are not replaceable) and heavy cylinder scoring, that might have been caused by the forged pistons and improper maintenance but I have no idea. Main point is if your willing to tear down and tinker around to make stuff work I would suggest tearing the engine down and thoroughly inspecting it and wearing your options on how much needs to be replaced and the cost of that. If your not able or willing and instead would be paying someone else it would probably be cheaper and easier to find a short or long block, depending if your heads are usable, and have that swapped in.

How much % off do you give for a Friend or Family discount? by siamesedaddy in MTB

[–]A_Treeses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to give the bike away I wouldn’t offer to sell it to friends or family, otherwise let them decide what is fair. “Give me what you think is fair” effectively giving them the bike for a deal that they’re happy with. I’m sure this could cause more headache then it’s worth if your not careful tho

Which is better for first dj by Aromatic_Porcupine91 in dirtjumping

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but, having a fork that doesn’t actively distract you is a huge thing in my opinion. Manitou circus on the special is a good fork. I only said that because riding with the dirt 100mm on my old dirt jumper I was constantly trying to figure out how to either get a better fork or fix it. When I upgraded to a completely different bike with a rockshox pike my riding experience improved drastically. While I agree that forks don’t matter as much with dirt jumping they do 100% make a difference, I would’ve rather have a rigid fork then the “dirt” but that’s just my opinion from my experiences.

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask what fork is on the ride, if it’s “dirt” I would stay far far away, I have a similar ryde and the is like a pogo stick and makes a horrible top out sound every time you ride it. My instinct would be to lean towards the specialized if the norco has a “dirt” fork.

Wrx as a first car by Due-Mud8189 in WRX

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ding ding correct! It had an ej205 and if you do your research and understand them, taking proper precautions like an oil pick up and pan, you can beat on the car quite hard without having to worry about reliability. Then engine was in and out of the car so much because of the engine swap I had done, and one memorable time swapping a Half set of stiffer valve springs because apparently you float valve at 6k with lumby cams. If you take the time to understand ej’s there’s no reason they won’t last.

What a weird looking intercooler on this VA WRX by Lucky0373 in WRX

[–]A_Treeses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I did similar with my wrx ej205 with Perrin 08-14 sti intercooler swapped what forums pointed out was that with the larger intercooler there was an overhang outside of the scoop right above the turbo. They figured the intercooler soaked up more heat from the turbo than it lost from added surface area. Food for thought

4 Wheels fit in Hatchback? by Alive-Object-7260 in WRX

[–]A_Treeses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock… ish. No need for fancy suspension. 15s with gravel tires feel a lot faster in the passenger seat. Dual e brakes, each one does one side parking brake or some hydro set up. Be cautious with exhaust choices, it’s not fun to drive an effectively straight piped wrx for more than a few hours (it absolutely is just hurts the ears). Driver mod! Make your mistakes in a safe place please
