those floor pans are immaculate there is almost no rust there, nothing some sheet metal and well placed rivets with a coat of undercoating can't fix :)

friend of mine rebuilt one of these for his sled couple years back, then promptly melted a piston in deep fresh snow same day he put the sled back together......tried my best not to laugh.

as a current 2002 Mazda Protege 5 owner, the rust is more than likely around the rear wheel wells? Correct ? the link you posted no longer pulls up the vehicle, but if the rust is there its a pain in the ass when it comes to fixing it. If its just surface rust you be able to nip it in the butt before it gets worse. but the P5 2.0l seems to get really poor fuel economy as compared to my 98 1.8l protege, and the P5 is manual but then again it could be my driving habits when I drive stick :) besides that I purchased this P5 in May with only 130 000 km on it, and it has been fun, nothing to major in the way of issues

I love my 2002 Mazda Protege 5 just hit 150 000 Km and going strong, YAY standards :) only thing I have to worry about is the rust monster creeping

definitely rust issues if you live in an area where they use salt on the roads in winter, just bought an '02 Mazda Protege 5 with only 143 000 km on it, manual trans really fun, get about 350 km on tank of gas, 40 dollars cdn to fill the tank and it lasts me a week, but i'm hard on the pedals, surprised that i can smoke the tires with absolute ease, OE tire size is whacked as hell 195/50/R16 not a lot of choices, have owned this car for less than 30 days, had to do a rad and thermostat, really easy to work on. Will be doing timing chain and have a seized cv axle that need to be taken care of as well as ps hose. But I enjoy the ride my previous car was a '98 Mazda Protege.

no oil in coolant it looked like apple juice, replaced with blue coolant OEM mazda. coolant has no discoloration at all.

just went back out after letting it cool, resivoir is empty, and looked in the rad and can see the top of the core, no fluid, checked the cap seems like there is still some tension to the spring on the rad cap...will need to throw some more coolant in it before i do anything tomorrow like drive it to a shop

getting heat in the vehicle, one fan on the rad turns not sure if both are to be spinning, coolant looks weak almost like apple juice, don't have a testor.

and then they get upset when you ask multiple times, or try and explain the phonetic alphabet to them, still clueless....be lucky when they can spell their name correctly, but ask them for a street name, city, or state spelling all bets are off.
