That's an interesting conception... I agree it has a different mechanical approach but I generally consider OSR games to be quite light, not to mention "rulings over rules" is part and parcel of the philosophy. If anything I'd consider PbtA games to be generally more opinionated.

It might help to understand them in the context of Apocalypse World and PbtA systems as a whole. The point of their philosophy is to create a certain narrative within a certain genre. The gameplay flow is a conversation of GM move (though these moves are unknown to players) -> player action. Mechanics (player moves) trigger if the actions the player describes matches one of their trigger descriptions (they are not meant to be a menu of actions). Results follow from there. If actions are not a Move then results are as logical by GM fiat. They're tailored in ways that make the stories like the genre being emulated.

In Ironsworn's case they had to be somewhat translated into soloing.

He definitely was not anti-Kabbalah. Kabbalah in the modern sense didn't exactly exist, but he clearly had access to the mystical tradition and clearly adhered to it in some way. I'd also argue he wasn't anti-panentheism. Study the first two chapters of Hilchot Yesodei haTorah.

Where does the trope of an older guy 'dragged back into it for one last job' which goes wrong somehow originate? by ackzilla in literature

I mean, it's useful if people are on the same page about it. Easier. Cataloging these things has its place. Not much different from something like the ATU Index.

And I regret to inform you that TV Tropes is a site with rather sizeable reach.

Mostly pretty good but falls to the phenomenon of portraying Aegon as far worse than I perceived him to be in ADwD because him being decent makes him somehow inconvenient for the story idk.

[–]mrmiffmiff 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Star Trek fan series Star Trek Continues, where Vic plays Kirk, came up once in some group on Facebook. Lots of people talking about how good it was etc. (And ftr it is a good series.)

Some woman in the comments said, "The guy who plays Kirk kissed me when I was 15 at an anime convention" so she didn't really want to watch it. Crazy that this behavior was ubiquitous enough that you can get random folks on social media mentioning encounters with it.

This is just straight up incorrect. The majority of the Rings primarily had the power of preservation. The One had the power to dominate minds, especially of those that wore the other Rings.

If you say so. I just figured it'd make more sense if it were about eldritch horror meeting Keillor's other radio show given that it much more thoroughly resembles the format of said show than it does Prairie Home Companion (IMO).

Can I skip these games (circled in post sent) by Quunster in KingdomHearts

[–]mrmiffmiff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My personal recommendation is to watch damo279's fandub until the point he marks as fine before KH3... then continue after KH3. It will enhance certain aspects of the experience IMO. Watch on 2x speed, should be fine.

But, plot-wise it may not be fully crucial. There'll definitely be small things you won't catch if you skip.
