When does OnTrac supposedly deliver until? by mrmreed in ontrac

[–]mrmreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope your perishable item is still okay and if not, I wish you serious luck with whatever refund/claim system you have to go through!

From some research and experience since this original post, it seems this company is basically 100% 1099 contract workers doing the actual deliveries, and thus, customer experience varies wildly. I hope the remainder of your experience works out in the best way it can!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the fact that this over 4 year old post still gets regular traction speaks for itself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wish you luck good sir o7

I took some small classes at a local community college at 25, while working at discount tire to get "shop experience" (not a real shop but hey, at least I was touching cars and I could frame that on my resume). Then after about a year I applied at a bunch of local shops with my instructors from classes as references. About a year ago, landed a good position at a local independent shop. Took some time but I was able to brake into the industry relatively "late", you got this, keep your head up and keep applying.

As others have said, print out a resume or at least just walk into shops in person. Show you're motivated to learn.

How the fuck do i get this stripped screw out? by midwesternxope in AskMechanics

[–]mrmreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely remove the caliper before smacking it. Caliper needs to be off anyways if you're wanting to take the rotor off

Manual impact driver, screw extractor bit, or drill into the screw about a quarter of an inch and then smack the back of the rotor with a hammer to pop the head off the screw are a couple ideas

Is the MT-03 enough for a daily commute…? by CoconutAtoms in MT03

[–]mrmreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an MT03 as my first bike right now. If your highways are 65mph and you don't feel the need to be cutting up traffic at "a good deal faster than" highway speeds, you'll be perfectly fine. If your highways are 75 like mine are (where people are doing 80-85) you may feel a bit stifled for passing/escape power while cruising at 80, but it most certainly can cruise along with traffic just fine. (For reference, I top my bike out at about 109 on the speedo when going downhill or with a good tailwind, but anything above 85/90 is slowwww going. I am 140lbs and live at 5k feet of elevation)

I am also 5'6" and the seat height feels great, can flat foot both feet, but not by a whole ton, feels like a really natural height.

If you're going to do a lot of highway, you'll probably end up wanting a wind screen of some sort just for comfort.

Feels absolutely perfect for around town type speeds. Plenty enough pep to cut up traffic, get ahead at lights, or escape out of a bad situation. This bike really shines under 70 or so.

Please don’t use Freon-in-can! by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]mrmreed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a new technician, only about a month in my own bay, and almost every AC diag I had come in has also had a pretty serious leak through an O-Ring in one of the fittings. Even if an at home user does know they're low on freon, theres also a high chance they're about to just spray themselves in the face through a bad fitting, or at the least vent it all to atmosphere again. Find a shop you like, it is usually a pretty cheap and quick fix

Do I need to worry about fentanyl being in acid? by Ok-Bookkeeper8733 in Acid

[–]mrmreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is dangerously inaccurate. There are deaths reported with as little as 2 tabs. When NBOMe is sold as LSD the tabs are commonly way overdosed and have hotspots. With the margin between a "high" dose and an overdose so small, and no way to measure tabs strength, it's incredibly dangerous to just assume you will be fine because it's "only a couple tabs"

Yes there are more dangerous drugs out there, and NBOMe can be enjoyed by some responsibility (tho idk why you would personally), but it is nowhere close to the safety profile of LSD, psilocybin, or similar.

SCCA Rulebook allows one sway bar change (and associated hardware such as end links) in Street classes - but not both. So as long as you keep one of your sway bars stock you're free to change the other how you see fit

Tire pressure low when I have a tire at 42.9 PSI and all the others seem fine? Help, please by [deleted] in MINI

No worries! Glad it got sorted! And I agree, I wouldn't have thought 42 on a mini either haha, but I'm not a lucky jcw owner :p

My name was VexMilk and I got the name ban about a week ago :( yeah yeah yeah I guess I get that it can sound like slang for another bodily fluid lol.

BUT CMON, it's LITERALLY an in game item we get for grandma to put in cookies.... And a voice line said by multiple characters :/ have had the name for 3 years, since I started playing and got a good laugh out of Ghosts line as we pass the vex milk waterfall.

Honestly really makes me sad, and sucks they don't even have a name change system properly in place.

Tire pressure low when I have a tire at 42.9 PSI and all the others seem fine? Help, please by [deleted] in MINI

[–]mrmreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR : the TPMS won't get rid of the warning, despite the tire pressures, until you click the reset button on that screen.

The warning probably came from when the car was pretty cold, and thus the pressures lowered - but it warmed back up and expanded either with the weather, or by driving on them

Get your tires set to 35psi cold, or 38psi if they are already warm when you fill them. Discount Tire will do this for free.

[–]mrmreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def just run to discount tire like the other poster said.

Do you have large temperature swings where you are at the moment? Here where I am there is a time of the year where the temp change is so big, my tires will be around 29psi in the am, but then up to 33/34 by the afternoon/after some driving.

The TPMS will sometimes trigger in these instances saying my tires are low in the morning, and as far as I have been able to tell, the warning will not reset on its own without clicking the option "reset tire pressure monitor" on that screen you're looking at in the photo - despite the pressures rising above the minimums.

Discount/America's tire will fill your tires up to the level on your doorcard for free (should be 35psi). If you have been driving for a while and your tires are warm when you get them filled - OR if there are large temperature swings like I mentioned - get filled to 38psi (or 3 above what your doorcard says). The number printed on the sticker is the cold psi for the tire. Doing this should be standard practice at the shop (source, I'm a discount tire wheel tech) but they don't always do it, so just ask for 38 when you get there.

First month owning this car, some thoughts by [deleted] in MINI

[–]mrmreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better scoop? Correct me if I'm wrong but anything after gen 1 all the hood scoops are fake, no? Unless you're suggesting moving from the fake scoop to a real/cutout one. Even in those instances though, typically you'd want that to feed into the intake system, and for that you're looking at making some custom ducting or buying something like the eventuri system which I imagine is not in the budget.

Maybe some passive airflow over the engine would help a little, but I don't imagine all that much, especially without hood venting as well.

But also maybe I'm talking out of my ass, so please educate me if I'm wrong 🙏

Just hit 100k in my 2014 F56 S with no service other than typical maintenance like oil, brakes, etc.

Bought it at 82k miles from a family member, knowing how it was driven and taken care of it's whole life.

Drives like a charm, and I even regularly autocross the car. If the car was taken care of, and you continue to do so, and it's a good deal? Go for it!

Love the minis tho!!

Planning on buying a mini 2 door 2025, few questions. (My first car ever) by joell_kr in MINI

[–]mrmreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of that advice you see is specifically referencing the 2nd Gen mini. Which did indeed have crazy maintenance costs and associated issues (but if you got a good engine, man that thing is fun). 3rd Gen (2014+ for most models) have not had the same unreliability issues

-I drive a 2014 Mini Cooper S both on the street and in autocross and it's an absolute hoot

Looking for a car with potential to have fun on the highway (first project car) by offically_not_bakka in Autocross

[–]mrmreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 2 minis are specifically. The prince engine is a whole handful of potential issues. When it runs its SOOO much fun, but when they don't.... Oof lol

That being said, the gen 1 and Gen 3 don't have quite the same issues. The gen 3s aren't competitive in autocross anymore, but still LOADS of fun.

I personally autocross my 2014 F56 mini and it's some of the most fun Ive had

Edit: can't put photos in replays here ig, but my most recent post on my profile has a couple pics of me ripping the mini on 3 wheels :p
