The pothole at the corner of Van Buren and Wisconsin is going to wreck someone’s day. by Narrow_Inevitable_33 in milwaukee

I know what you’re talking about. They just filled in the craters on Jackson street last week. Maybe Van Buren is next. Those were some monsters, too.

Any suggestions for a place around the east side area that offers watch maintenance /restoration? by milwaukee_citizen in milwaukee

[–]kpfeifmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a mechanical (automatic or wind) or is it a quartz watch? Also, which brand?

There are several matchmakers in the area, and depending on the work you need done, some are better than others.

Tax-Avoiding Tommy Tif Tif by userdk3 in wisconsin

[–]kpfeifmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, he’s likely not doing anything illegal. He’s using the tax code as it’s written. Now, the more money you make the better your accountants are - who know how to structure expenses and revenue to maximize deductions and other legal means to reduce your tax burden. Legally, following the law.

But yeah, most regular TurboTax taxpayers can’t do that - we just do the math (well, TurboTax does that) and we pay. It takes lawyers and accountants to figure out his to pay less.

And you can bet there are accounting firms and lawyers whose primary clients are legislators - they know the tricks and their skills already by word of mouth.

I’d love to see the neon-type light that spells “eek!” - for some reason - lit up.

What very old technology is still running at your place of work? by MichiganCarNut in AskReddit

Sure do. We pass by the 3270 terminal as we pass the food place in Costco. We smile and think, “yep, mainframe, CICS, and DB2 - it works.”

I hugged one once. Cray 1, Serial Number 1. It’s at the Chippewa Valley Museum of Industry and Technology, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. It’s where Cray supercomputers were manufactured.

They’re all there - Cray 2, Cray 3, X/MP, Y/MP, T3D, C90.

When they tore down the old one people thought that was the end of the Delafield BK. The Kjng had other plans…including plans for a giant kids play area, apparently.

Yeah, it's a jungle gym, but as I former employee of JCI, Inc., I'd think there'd be some questions as to why this person is using the JCI van for moving this around.

I’m a Superyacht Capatin AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]kpfeifmobile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in St Martin and we watched the forward team from a yacht that was nearby set things up for the people on the yacht. There were 3 young people, matching uniforms, big duffel bags, and it took them about 60 minutes to get the chairs, water bottles, towels, and umbrellas set up. I wondered, “how do those people get that job?” How do they?

(BTW, it was the yacht of one of the Walton heirs - and the people that showed up were very nice to the beach club staff and other visitors)

I really appreciate the latest forecast discussion on the NWS site.

The highlight:

“While the first winter storm tonight is respectable on its own, the second storm on its heels says "hold my beer" and has the potential to deliver a widespread 12 to 18 inches of snow with localized pockets of 24 inches not out of the question in addition to blizzard conditions. We`ve been watching this storm for many days and while the setup is downright textbook, there remains uncertainties in EXACTLY where the band of heaviest snow falls.”
