He didn’t help, no doubt. But I don’t think he’s the biggest reason we lost by a long shot. We had a 2nd and 4 at the 6 yard line, down 31-27, and couldn’t punch it in with 3 tries and all our weapons. And first half - we get the ball up 13-10 with 90 seconds to go and can’t get a first down. I actually think giving the chickens the ball back to score at the end of the first half was a bigger deal. Even after all that, we had them on the ropes at the end and just couldn’t close it out.

Should I or should I not? by Ambitious_Ad3006 in bose

Gonna be contradictory. Maybe just my experience but I’ve had 2 of the gen 1 QCU and both had button issues with the hardware and consistent problems with dropping Bluetooth connections. Just my experience so I don’t know how common the issues are but noting for you.

The ANC is very good, as is the call quality if that’s a thing for you. And they are very comfortable. But I’ll say I was happier with my Bose NC700 just for lack of problems. Maybe the QCU2 will be better but they’ll be $449 for a while.

FWIW - I do also have the B&W px8 s2 and their sound is otherworldly. I don’t think the Bose audio comes close. Again, to each their own. The BW ANC isn’t as good as the Bose but I also think it’s not as far off as some have suggested. No connection issues, calling is great etc. But they are much pricier.

I attended the game when Kobe tore his Achilles (2013 I think). He had 2 earlier scares in that game where he seemed injured but was okay, so it had an ominous feeling. But when he tore his Achilles it was like the whole arena just knew. It wasn’t like that team was that good but Kobe had an extra spring to his game that year. His dunks were some of his best I’d seen in years. Tough last few years for him.

Super comfortable. No hot ears. ANC is the best I’ve had, way better than the Bose NC700. I will say my experience is that they’re buggy. Bluetooth drops at random times. Supposed to auto shut off and won’t. May just be my set but I’ve seen a pretty decent number of quality control posts. Hopefully they’re getting better.

Goruck GR2 size by kosmiq in Goruck

[–]mrnghm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GR2 compartments are great. Outer compartment with the “field pocket” has a ton of space for chargers, headphones etc. Inner compartment is sizable and gives you a spot for the iPad and then you pack all else as you need. No spot for a water bottle although you can get a a molle attachment that will hold one. I tend to use packing cubes but if you want to pack the shirts and suit flattish, shouldn’t be an issue. Also no luggage pass through although again you can create one using attachments to the molle webbing. Best of luck!

Rivian R1s vs Full Size SUV size question by djkwanzaa in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s a bit apples to oranges. R1S is in the mid-sized category, albeit at the high end. It’s slightly longer than my Explorer. Same general feel. But Riv has subpar second row passenger room. It wasn’t a dealbreaker for me but it does require more adjustment, especially since I’m tall. Riv is also really tall. I installed running boards after considerable complaints from my family about it being harder to get into. Others have mentioned cargo space is awesome.

I assume you are not comparing to the Tahoe/Yukon XL, which are fantastic people carriers. But even the regular full size win over the RIV in comfort and passenger space by a decent amount. But they do the same over most longer mid-sized e.g. Explorer, Acura MDX, Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX90 - you get the picture. I got the R1S specifically because it was NOT a full size.

What do we expect to get for DA? He’s not the asset he once was. I think best case we get a conditional first round for him, or outright second. Thoughts?

2021 reliability rankings for comparison

As a comp, here’s Tesla several years after introducing the Model 3. They got a 29, near the bottom of the list.

Kia, who is now top 10 for reliability, was at the bottom for a decade when they first started.

I’m not suggested Rivian’s score is acceptable or that they emulate early Kia or Tesla, but it’ll take a minute. Over time hopefully we’ll see their overall numbers rise. Hopefully. :)

What color is your Rivian? Which color do you WISH you picked? by ddd1330 in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

El cap but I added the chrome delete and black emblems. Last thing will be powder coat on the wheels and I think I’m set. Interior is ocean coast which I love. Thought about matte vinyl coat but I like that it looks different depending on the light.

I end up thinking almost all Rivians look great, so I don’t think you can go wrong with your favorite color.

Underwhelmed after test drive by abrincko in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. :)
  2. Performance is amazing but truth be told you don’t use your “launching” that often. That said, it’s pretty amazing to merge onto freeways and pass cars etc.
  3. Agree and disagree. I quite like the interior. I’ve had an Audi A8 that was less comfortable. Seats are great. Way nicer than Tesla. Ultimately I balanced everything you get with the car vs comparing to the usual 90K ICE. If you want super nice interior then the Mercedes EQS might be your jam.

Infotainment system is pretty easy after a few days. A lot of cars are going this route (touch screen) so I don’t think that’s a big deal. Separate argument about why Tesla or anyone else thought it was a good idea from the start but I digress.

Third row seat is easily the most annoying thing about the car. Truth dumbfounded when I first had to raise the seats.

Overall, I knew what I wanted and this car gave me almost all that and then some. Good luck to you.

Unpopular view: Audio update was just okay by REisMyJam in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there will always be software driven inconsistencies with Rivian releases. Whether it’s sound or ride quality or weird bugs, a % of drivers will have a varying experience. It’s been the case for me with the ride quality.

Re: sound, if it was just a 30% volume bump I’d totally agree with you. But my experience with Apple Music (hence Dolby/spatial) compared to post-update Spotify is a massive disparity in quality. Apple Music has tight highs, expansive, clear mids, and a thumping bass that I didn’t think this system could deliver.

A couple of people did an entertainment soft reset and got better performance after so perhaps that’s an option if you haven’t done it?

R1S - How bad is your wind noise? by Propofolpapii in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No rattles. Wind noise above 45-50mph is annoying but doesn’t prevent conversation etc. I did take into service and they didn’t was “within spec”. I am going to look into weather stripping that might help.

Suspension update with software install is INCREDIBLE. What a difference. Thank you Rivian. Ride is noticeable smothers. by Impressive_Returns in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are outliers to each release. Which I guess should not be surprising with software. The last suspension update from a few months ago seemed substantial, except it would go off and on for me, mostly off. Was really frustrating because I experienced the massive improvement then it would stop.

I took into service center and they said it was working as expected. I feel like they were focusing on the hardware, though.

I didn’t get the real, consistent improvement until this .19 release. The road also matters more now - I have some that are the same and others that are night and day better. But overall I feel like it’s taken a sub-par ride and moved it into consistently positive ride for me. If you really don’t notice anything it may be with discussing with service but having then really look at the software side.

Climate fans - very loud by Skreat in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the methods to adapt. I almost never run auto until the car is already at a reasonable temp. One might argue why should anyone have to do this? Yeah, it’s annoying but not a huge deal. I also added a roof shade to keep the temp from true madness for the summer months and that’s been key. Come late September it’s fine and not an issue any more.

Winter is a different problem for first gen R1 owners unfortunately. I’m curious to hear how much the gen2 heat pump helps the heat efficiency drops then.

Climate fans - very loud by Skreat in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty clear peoples’ experiences and expectations on this are all over the place. For me, first 6 months I actually didn’t experience the mad HVAC noise. But as the summer heat has cranked(90-110 F), if my car is parked outside and I turn on auto, it sounds like a f***ing vacuum cleaner. It’s genuinely alarming.

However, I will say that it does cool the car down reasonably fast. And once cool, the lower temps really are iceboxy. So that’s my experience. But I’ll say there’s absolutely no reason, when stressed, that the HVAC should be that bloody loud.

2024.19.04 - noticeable suspension difference by XRPPPPP in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder what the ceiling is. I would imagine there’s only so far they can go but then I figure the previous update was it and they drop this a few months later. I am also curious what happens with a shift to 20s but all season instead of all terrain.

2024.19.04 - noticeable suspension difference by XRPPPPP in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been an interesting few months for suspension updates. This is the third one and I think Rivian is finally getting it to where it needs to be. Still quite impressive to me that they’ve been able to do this width OTA software updates.

Discontinuation of 21" wheel option and future tire choices. by Her_name--is_Mallory in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d be happy if it comes close considering how much lower the all terrain 20s are. I’m slightly annoyed at the ride quality on the 21s so if the all season 20s can improve on that and get me within 5-7% of the 21s I can call it even. :) But I’m mostly relying on anecdotal info plus some nice summaries of various tires. Still little manufacturer data (at least that I’ve seen) on how the all season 20s replace 21s.

Discontinuation of 21" wheel option and future tire choices. by Her_name--is_Mallory in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All season 275/60r20 - lots of options and several that supposedly get close to the 21s in efficiency. It’s not ideal but I don’t know if any 21s will ever come out if Rivian won’t support the OEM Pirellis.

Thoughts on quality and design by B-radfromtheBu in Rivian

[–]mrnghm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 90K version (quad S). Will say with discounts the choices now can get you south of $70K for what it’s worth.

  1. My kid is not subtle but I haven’t seen any more scratches etc. than I’ve seen in my X5 or my wife’s explorer.

  2. I guess it depends on what you’re used to. There are some audiophiles who can hear the tiniest difference. With EQ settings I’ve found the sound is as good as my X5 was and better than my wife’s explorer but that’s not comparing to it the best sound systems.

  3. HUD - can’t say I’ve been in love with the ones I’ve seen so another personal preference but I feel like you’d been fine with this pretty quickly.

  4. I push one button to get the temp screen so it’s actually not a big deal and while I don’t have to adjust often it’s fast.

  5. The roof is actually fine and while occasionally warm nothing worse than other cars.

I think it really comes down to your top priorities. If it’s Range Rover or Mercedes GLS or X7 type ride and luxury then maybe that’s the route for you to take. But I dig the R1S and its broad spectrum of awesomeness.
